A story about a troubled man searching for truth about his past. The Stage is a project started after four years of planning the storyline and rewriting the script tens of times. This is a Silent Hill fan game based on Doom 3. The Stage tells a story about Brian Arquette, who lost his perspective of reality after a car crash that killed his wife and took his three years old daughter into comatose state. What really bothers him is, the night of that fatal accident. Something felt eerily familiar during the crash. Like it had happened before. ---

Oh, huge manatee. This news writing page is darn confusing. I even have to put at least 50 letters here. What can I say? Hot piss?

Hi guys.

At last I decided to took my time and write something that's been going on lately. Well, there's nothing much to say, other than that The Stage is now on hold. About 3 months ago (or so) I lost my will to continue on this project. I tought it was too much work for so small team to create such huge game with alot of content. Then before I talked to anyone about this, our coder decided to put up a ridiculous excuse to stop working with us. Not that he even made anything, but he wussed out right after joining us. Next, I started working on smaller personal projects such as Bloodfeast for GZDoom (more info later). Alot of ideas and small projects really made me forgot all about The Stage. Next, Nomrah got quite busy with his school and I undestood his situation, so we decided to put the whole project on hold.

Right now I really started to think about this project and look for better, easier engines. Maybe even take the project out of Silent Hill universe and make a setting of my own (still keeping the deep, psychological and dark style).

...

I really can't say much else. I'm bad at writing stuff like this.

So, if there's any coders or such interested in helping (no, we don't need mappers, modellers, graphic artists, story writers or Resident Evil fanboys), please PM me or comment on this post. Engine suggestions are highly recommended too! If you are telling us to make it on Source engine, be ready to help on coding part, because Source isn't the easiest engine because of it's C++ language.

I still think Source is the perfect engine for this type of game

-Unreal engine: Waaaay to fakish, not really good for a slow paced game + not alot or no physx.

-Cry engine2: Not alot of people would be happy, since its really graphical but not the perfect engine for this type of game. Considering its such a High class engine. (you know what I mean)

Then theres the older engines like Essence, Dunia , EGO, etc..

But there not really worth it anymore for a game like this.

Overall: If you really want to make this mod. Learn Souce and C++ coding.

Cant help you anymore than that buddy.

Thanks man. I think I'll start experiementing with Source. Can you recommend me any good C++ books to get me started with mostly modifying Source SDK? I know how to compile the SDK, but the language is pretty difficult for me. I understand some of it's basic logic but there's still alot of stuff that's complete gibberish.

Sorry to hear that The Stage is on hold, I guess it's always true that ambitious mods usually end up running into problems. I would recommend against Source since it's much more work to make custom content than it is for Doom 3 and complex geometry ideally needs to be modelled to look half-decent.

Good luck with the project in the future!

So true. Source needs alot work on models, rigging and exporting models. All textures/materials needs a seperate text file and the file types require problematic plugins for Photoshop.

Doom 3 is easy because you can get everything to work easily, but then again, it requires much more work on hi-poly models to render a good looking normalmap. I really want to make this on GoldSrc but it seems to require as much programming skills as Source. C++ language, Visual Studio for compiling and modifying SDK etc.

Unreal Tournament 2004 engine would be awesome because most of the work really happens in one editor.

Oh, man.

If you wanna make it for HL1 then go ahead! It's your mod so if that's what you want to do then do it! I'll certainly watch it and many others will too!

Oh, sorry for late reply. Yeah, I'd like to make this on HL1, but it requires C++ too, so I'm gonna have to forget about it too.

Well, right now I've started making my own game with RPG Maker XP, which is freaking powerful and awesome program. I'm packing most of my game ideas into this one project and so far it's looking good! I'll probably make a page for it on ModDB. I'll keep you guys informed \o
