Deus Ex is one of the best PC games in history, but even it isn't without its faults and shortcomings. Shifter addresses these and then some. Unused game content, buggy scripted events, several completely useless items, and certain design choices that can only be described as "annoying", all fixed (or at least "improved") by this little mod. I started Shifter in 2002 to fix just one of the latter -- the fact that weapons equipped with a laser sight won't turn it on automatically -- and the project has expanded exponentially since then. A few new weapons, some additional uses for existing items, new augmentations, and several fixes for existing Deus Ex bugs all exist in Shifter, along with a new multiplayer component. The mod is so popular it's been featured in Game Informer's July 2007 edition of Mod World; how many Deus Ex mods can say that? (only 3, to be specific) Shifter: "Removing the suck from Deus Ex" since 2002.

Good mod, but there are a few things that can be polished or added.

Eating food and drinks - if you have a full inventory but not on max hp clicking on soy food or soda should use the item and heal you, its annoying to have to drop an item every time i want to eat up and heal up. Medicine could also increase the healing effect of food and drinks by a bit.

XP system is a nice addition, getting bonuses for headshots and all. But playing the stealthy type or pacifist is not beneficial xp wise, you get less xp per "kill" if you headshot a lot that per stunning the enemy. There should be a pacifist stun bonus same as the headshot bonus if you decide not to be an improved Anna Navarre. Or add headshot bonuses when you stun the enemy by hitting his head (at least the stun stick has an aiming cross, so it should count).

Any chance you could make the usable items hotkeys make the item used instead of selecting it and than have to click manually? Would be nice to just press 9 to use that energy cell, instead of have to clicking and than selecting the weapon again.

Not sure if this one is fixed or not, but when you escort the NSF terrorist out of the secret MJ12 base under UNATCO you should get xp. Haven't managed to save him myself(he got lost somewhere, while i said stay putt, odd) but I've read some forum posts on the net, not sure if it was an older version thou.

Hacking turrets and using them for kills is nice on bots (gives more xp that just blowing the thing up with a LAM), but you get few xp on humans. Perhaps a small hacked turret bonus would be nice.

Think i still have some things that I forgot but when I get to playing the game again I will post more if you're interested in feedback, if not thanks anyhow for the great mod!

Cheers,
Sky
