School Yard Wars mod for Half-Life 2

School Yard Wars is a mod based on our time spent in the school yard and the games we played and antics we got up to. We envisiage the two teams will be based on Public School and Private school with associated classes of players in each (bully, nerd, teachers pet etc).

We are currently documenting the concepts and game play and will shortly put this out for review and discussion. Below is some initial ideas we are floating around:

Private School verses Public Schools - An Age old battle ground that will always bring out the worst in any kids!!

Teachers are out for lunch and the playground has turned nasty… Its brother on brother class on class as the fight for school yard honours begins…

Map themes

Hold the fort…

The object of this map is to take and hold the fort…

The longer you hold the fort the more points your side gets (king of the hill)
In the play ground there would be those pipes that go under hills of dirt, Big Slides etc… It’s a private school so no expense was spared on the area… think of all the things you had at school.. there are all here and BIG…

Beat up the bully

Each side has one bully that they must protect at all costs… Points are scored by taking out the opposites team bully. I suppose this one is sort of like the VIP maps only both sides have to defend a person and can only score by beating the other teams bully into unconsiousness… (yes this map is for all the weedy puny kids out there!!

Gang Tiggy

One person is made it and given a medicine ball to hunt down the other team… One hit of the medicine ball and you it as well… last man tug wins points and is it next round…
Would possibly make this on a smaller map such as a gymnasium where deflections of walls are possible and a few mini tramps are scattered around.. Plus the old gym horse and climbing ropes???

Cap the playground
Basically hold the objects ala dod….

Weapons:

Stones Small: can be thrown quite fast and found in bundles of 10 around the playground.. A keen throw will reward the skillfull tosser!!

Stones large: Can be thrown shorter distances but will bring a kid down or at least cause server injury.. One of the major reasons parents have always warned kids not to throw stones…

Slingshot: Made from a branch of a tree this is a hard hitting weapon though slow to load..

Blow darts: made out of PVC tubing and cardboard cones with nails for penetration – always good fun

Sticks ; What’s a school yard fight without sticks… great for head blows and quite capable of taking out an eye!!

Rulers: yes you all remember these.. the ones with the metal edge.. used to play splits with them but now when sharpened along the edge can remove limbs on a lucky strike…

Roman candles: yes yes these are the go… Not common but can be found randomly around the school ground and fire out 10 magnesium balls of pain… These have been known to remove tumours if applied correctly…

Kick: Ahh yes when cornered the kick come into it’s own… has been known to bring a grown man to his knees if correctly placed..

The headlock: if not able to break free from this hold then the sleeper hold follows resulting in time down… this is a master move if applied correctly

Rubbish bin lids: Whilst can be used with the single handed weapons (stones/rulers) it cannot be used with large heavier two handed weapons…

Can be thrown (Frisbee style)if needed and with some skill is effective weapon

Secret weapon - Elastics make use of the Girls playing elastics and setup trip wires (elastics)

Where to go if needing help…
Well off to the first aid station… here the schools nurse will apply bandaids and fix you up… if you can make it here alive!!!! If your really hurt you might qualify for the “Kiss Better”

Well that’s enough to give you more of an idea of what I was thinking of…
