This version is really not a lot different from RS2.6 in terms of how the game will play, units will fight, etc. Stats have been tweaked a little, as well as unit prices and economics in general. But by and large, that aspect of the game has changed very little.
Significant changes that might cause some discussion were made to all siege and mechanical weapons, however. The other significant change is to general units. All of them now have the same number of units as a 'regular' cavalry unit would have. This was to encourage the AI to recruit them, and since all generals are effected, the impact on battles is negligible.
To the full list of changes you can find link in description.
This is a stand-alone installer, so I'm recommending the following procedure to install this mod:
1. Create a new, clean install of RTW (with or without BI) which of course is patched to RTW version 1.5/1.6.
2. Install RSIII using this installer, it's a simple 'point and click' (just point it to wherever you installed RTW).
3. Use the launcher to play.
!!! Choose correctly in launcher preferences the 'descr_formation' settings corresponding to .exe file you are using (see fig. below).
!!! Be sure and setup correctly in launcher preferences the screen resolution of RTW (both strat and battle) to whatever the default resolution is of your system. The game will crash if you don't (see fig. below).
If you don't like the newer stats in RSIII, the complete set of RS2.6 stats are available in the 'data\_Important_Stuff' folder.
STEAM USERS ONLY:
RSIII will NOT work at all with the Steam versions of RTW or BI. So, if you must play RSIII in Steam, you will need a copy of the RTW Alexander expansion. Recommended installation:
1. Copy the contents of the Rome Total War Alexander folder to another folder, ie., 'C:\games\RSIII' or something like that.
2. Rename the 'Alexander' folder 'No_Alexander' or something similar, if you want to play Custom Battles.
3. Then install RSIII into this folder.
4. Use the launcher to play.

I followed all the instructions to play with the steam version. I get a crash in the loading screen after the screen where you choose the difficulty, advisor, following AI etc, just before starting to play. It loads like 5% and crashes to desktop without any errors. I tried deleting everything and uninstalling both RTW and RTW Alexander, but the same issue persists. Help?
Hi, I'm sorry, I don't have sound advice for you (cause I don't know anything about modding). I just repacked the mod, only because on twcenter.net are dead links. But I run search on twcenter.net and found this:
'It's easy to get this mod working with Steam:
1. Install Alexander to 'steamapps/common' and run it one time
2. Create a 'RS3' folder inside the 'Rome Total War Alexander' folder (not 'alexander' folder)
3. Copy (not move) all of the Rome Total War Alexander files into the 'RS3' folder
4. Install 3.1 into the RS3 folder
5. Run the 'Roma Surrectum III.exe' located in 'launcher' folder
6. Click on 'Steam' button and click 'Yes'
7. When prompted, enter your Steam login username (not the username that your friends see)
8. Adjust settings/campaign then play
9. BOOM!'
If it doesn't help, another advice was getting ahold of non-steam version of the game. :-(
That's what I did, but I'll try it again anyway. Sorry for bothering you, didn't know that you're not a part of the dev team. Thanks for repacking the mod and putting it here.
ty for your work
I'm having the same problem as arrahik. Either there's something wrong with the mod files, or something is incompatible with Alex on Steam. I'm also wondering if it might be the Steam version, which is patched to 1.5.1 instead of 1.5. Can anyone confirm?
I do have a disk version of the game from years ago, but it refuses to work on Winddows 10. Very frustrating. Thanks anyway for your work.

Hey, this stand alone can be installed without installing anything before? Or we have to had something installed like an old version?
I have the same question, the launcher works fine but i can't play the campaign, is like im playing vainilla rome.
You need to have installed Rome Total War; stand-alone in this case means this is the only file you need to install this mod. If launcher starts up game as vanilla Rome, you probably pointed installer to wrong folder. After install root folder must look something like this:
Ibb.co

Hey I installed it as shown and I keep getting an error, Failed to read censored word dictionary file: data//chat_filter.san
Alright by putting the mod directly in Alex and overwriting files it now boots to the main menu but now I crash loading a campaign.
Tried installing directly to RTW instead with the same issue, only loads like 10% then crashes when loading a campaign
Finally got the campaign up by installing the mod straight to rtw then swapping the steam exe with a cd exe, only problem now is the UI is bugged with icons in wrong places, wrong sizes and the UI looks zoomed in
Custom battles work fine with the UI only having slight issue with misplaced icons
Hey Hayabusa, can you tell me what you mean by 'cd exe'. Are you saying that you have a the executable for the cd version of the game? I'm trying to get this mod installed with steam myself and am getting nowhere.

С новым годом всех.
Компания запускается но при запуске битв в компании в самом конце загрузки вылет каждый раз.
И что с русификатором?
Установил патч не помогло.
Теперь в конце бытвы вылет каждый раз
mod foldered?
Clearly not mod-foldered. Knackered my game for all other mods (all of which were mod-foldered).

Why does Athens have horse archers?
carefull the "Roma:SurrectumIII.exe" has virus
Lots of crashes in battles.
Hoplites of Syracuse have the spear for the show, they only use the sword in battle.
Wierd garrison scripts that spawn entire stacks in cities under siege.
Bad pathways in some cities, especially the barbarian ones.
Greeks have horse archers? More so, they can be recruited en masse providing the greeks with drive-by troops that can plow macedon's armies with virtually 0 losses. It was bad enough when i used them against Sarmatia, Scythia and Parthia. Oh and they cost 100 gold to recruit too....
Athens campaign seems impossible to find in the launcher.

Please, please, please can we get an installation video from one of the mod teams for 3.1 on STEAM!?!? I absolutely love the game with this mod, but I can't get it to work on my Windows 10 PC and have been trying for hours and hours.
I followed all the instructions to play with the Steam version and keep getting the following immediately on startup 'Failed to read censored word dictionary file: data//chat_filter.san', or with one attemped 'fix' it just starts up RTW v1.91
These are the instructions I've followed (from other Google searches) to no avail - any additional advice, links to videos/guidance would be greatly appreciated!
--------------------
INITIAL INSTALLATION
9. Immediately on startup 'Failed to read censored word dictionary file: data//chat_filter.san'
-------------
FIX Attempt 1
Using STEAM USERS ONLY instructions on this mod's Mod DB webpage:
RSIII will NOT work at all with the Steam versions of RTW or BI. So, if you must play RSIII in Steam, you will need a copy of the RTW Alexander expansion. Recommended installation:
1. Copy the contents of the Rome Total War Alexander folder to another folder, ie., 'C:\games\RSIII' or something like that (I did F:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Alexander)
2. Rename the 'Alexander' folder 'No_Alexander' or something similar, if you want to play Custom Battles. (which Alexander folder? I used F:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Alexander\RS3\alexander)
3. Then install RSIII into this folder (I installed into F:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Alexander\RS3) - should I have installed to another folder?
4. Use the launcher to play.
5.Immediately on startup 'Failed to read censored word dictionary file: data//chat_filter.san'
-------------
FIX ATTEMPT 2
Using advice on Reddit 'You need to move chat_filter.san from the Alexander directory into the RS3 data directory.'
-I've copied the chat_filter.san file from Alexander directory (F:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Alexander) to my RS3 data directory (F:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Alexander\RS3\data) but to no avail - it mow just launches the game as Rome Total War v1.91 and not RS3
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!
In order to play Roma Surrectum II, downgrade you Rome Total War .exe and your Barbarian Invasion (BI) .exe. The Rome .exe needs to be patched to version 1.5. That is the only real fix to get it to work with Steam as Steam updated the .exe to 1.5.1, breaking the mod.
Yeah as another guy said you have to downgrade your steam version to 1.5.
a question, to play, rome surrectum III do I have to install the previous versions, or how, could someone explain to me?

Just to let people know, the installer seems to cause more problems. I've found more luck by getting 2.5, 3 and then 3.1 patch separately
This mod would be a lot more playable if you made it for 90% of the player base of RTW (Steam users) instead of hanging onto the 12 people who still have the 20 year old disk.
