We are proud to declare to the world that Rise of Kings is finally available for Steam users.
If you are a user of the Steam edition, Rise of Kings is finally out in a format that is available for you to use.
And better still, we have a Christmas treat for those who have stood by us for so long!
- Magistral Guard Infantry are now available solely to Italian factions.
- The splash damage and damage dealt by the Heavy Galley and Galleass against buildings has been increased.
- Skins have been updated for countless units.
- French can now recruit Mercenary Swordsmen.
To celebrate the emergence of the official Steam version, we are giving a small booster pack of five units:
Improved Volley Gun
The Improved Volley Gun is an even heavier version of the Volley Gun, having better attack, field of fire and can fire an extra round, making it deadlier against enemy units. This new incarnation in comparison to its earlier forbear now is now capable of eviscerating most armies foolish to come into its reach as it can deal even more splash damage upon contact with the enemy.
With uniformity and professionalism comes efficiency and the Banner Huzar is no exception to the rule. These units still retain the anti-cavalry traditions of their Huszar Cavalry predecessors, with the added distinction of being tougher, stronger and easier to recruit.
In contrast to mainstream light cavalry or the more heavily equipped warriors that form the personal guards of Chinese potentates, Guard Cavalry are essentially a filler "in between" the two classes, meant to function as a medium cavalry option when more decisive action or defence against enemy cavalry is so needed.
Combining the stopping power of the Frankish Arbalest with the speed of camels, Arbalest Dromedaries may highly useful support units with regard towards skirmish work and infantry support. Not only do they have the speed and anti-horse resistance of most camelry, they now are even more devastating against melee infantry owing to the far reach of their primary weapon, the Arbalest.
Akıncılar are special cavalry units raised by the Turks, and function as a fast-moving raiding unit whose main ability is damaging buildings other than Towers and Castles. Unlike other factions' cavalry, they are not recruited from the Stable, but rather serve as a unique mercenary units — thus costing Wealth rather than the traditional Food and Timber usually outlaid for conventional light melee cavalry.
MITIGATING ISSUES (3/3/17)
As of today, there are only two known issues regarding this mod.
The first is that due to some of the tweaks made to the source code of Rise of Nations by Skybox, custom scripts don't seem to be working as they should. While this has some impact on gameplay, we don't expect it to be too great.
The second is that library research icons at the top of the HUD have a black bar running through them. We are unsure as to why this is happening, but again we stress that it will not affect your gameplay in any way or form.
