The goal of Resistance and Liberation is to realistically portray the events and actions taken by the 82nd Airborne during their stay in Normandy. Our initial release will follow the regiments through a campaign that mimics that followed by the men themselves. The campaign will begin with players dropping into Normandy in the early hours of June 6th, with the ultimate objective of capturing the town of Sainte-Mere-Eglise. From there subsiquent maps will include missions based on other key areas after the D-Day.

Great Map, especially with the new Layout...
but it´s actually illegal to play this map in Germany... and also other european Countries like Austria, Poland and Hungary I think...because of the Swastikas on the boxes!

Will there be a Version without the Swastikas?

It should not be illegal anymore. What law prevents us from using it?

Well, actually it´s still illegal for people in Germany to use it (ask Ubisoft why they were forced to recall the Collector's Edition of Silent Hunter 5!) even it´s unlikely that you get caught for playing a map!^^

But Strafgesetzbuch section 86a (see Wikipedia) of the German Law outlaws the use of "anti-constitutional symbols" (Verfassungsfeindliche Symbole) and everyone in Germany who (down)loads it or even passes this Map to someone else could be punished with imprisonment up to three years or a fine"

I´m not a lawyer, but I think as long as you are not hosting the files in Germany you are fine as a developer! For everyone in Germany who plays RnL on the other Hand it could get a "little uncomfortable"
at worst, so it would be nice to have a Swastika-Free Version of the map!

Now that you actually put in the effort to research this law (I'm impressed :D ), put in a little more effort and look up what kind of media is protected from it, in other words, where these symbols are still allowed even in germany.

It was the Topic of a "German Game Rights" lecture I had one or two Years ago in my Education, so don´t worry because the only research I did was to look for the Wikipedia reference to keep it simple! ;-)

I guess you refer to educational, scientific and artistic use (as in Movies) of these Symbols that are free in Germany...
but according to that "Gameindustry-Lawyer" who tought us "German Game Law", Computer Games are NOT affected by these exceptions...at least until the Bundesverfassungsgericht (highest court in Germany... for those who never heard of it) says something else!

Until that it´s actually a bit of a grey zone! On one hand it should be legal, because as we all know, Games are art...on the other hand the OLG Frankfurt for example clearly prohibited the use in Games in its decision from 18.3.1998; Az.: 1 Ss 407/97(Attention: Research!:D) and shooter games really don´t have the best reputation in Germany as you should know. So it´s far from certain how a court would decide, but the currently applied law is that it is still illegal!

So for the sake of completeness...
perhaps you could simply answer my Question if you plan to release a Version without Swastikas or not because I really would appreciate that Answer! Thanks

Yes, that was what I was referring to. In december 2007 the EU decided to accept video games to be a part of our culture just like movies and books. German courts *will have to* accept that eventually. That means in theory they're exempt from that law just like Indiana Jones movies ;-D

Sure, sooner or later even the german courts will accept that...
but unless the European Court of Justice or the Bundesverfassungsgericht pronounce a Judgement on this topic, it´s just a nice theory while the reality in Germany is still different!

And honestly I don´t have the money to handle a lawsuit big enough to enforce that theory...so excuse me for beeing cautious when even in 2010 big companies like Ubisoft rather recall their products than file a suit! ;-)

Swastikas are not Nazi though, they are old, like BC old. I dont see why everyone is like "OMG NAZIS!!! CANT PLAY IN GERMANY!!!". Its said that even Hitler did lots of research and the Swastikas mean good luck, or something like that.

The Swastika Is an ancient symbol found around the world. Its meaning vary from place to place. Im SE Asia it was a symbol of peace and Buddhism. Is Afrika and Europe, a symbol of Christianity and Happyness. In the Early Americas, Good luck and Good Will from the gods. I see no reason it should be banned. Its simply a matter of how well versed a person is on the history of the symbol.
