Here's an update on the portal gun modeled and textured by Azgag.
Nice model with a great attention to details (even the 70s logo), though I would have seen it in white too. Still if you're keeping the orange color, you need to fade it a bit to mark the device's age. It shouldn't look so shiny after spending 30 years underground.

This is a wonderful model- the texture is well-mapped!
Will there only be one model of Portal Gun in the game? Will we get to use the modern one too? If so, I think it would be really cool if the portals looked different. Not just a different color scheme, but the effect itself.
Remember the original portal trailer? The portals looked different then the final game- they had a rougher edge to them, the color was more subtle, and there was a purplish-pinkish hue to them. These looked better IMO. They also look like something I would expect from an older version of the portal gun; as if they were an older variation of the portal technology itself. That type of effect would be good for a older type of portal gun.
If you had several different models, the effect could get progressively rougher and... more dangerous... the older the gun is, showing how aperture improved the tech over the years.
Older portals could have a different two-color scheme- or maybe black vs white. Something familiar, yet different. Just my suggestions. :)
