I'd like to share my ideas regarding game balance and get insight from you.

Hello, everyone!

Today I'd like to talk about the morale system in my mod and some other gameplay aspects.

You may have already seen the first multiplayer battle using my mod brought by Pixelated Apollo and Jackie Fish. If not, here it is :

A few questions were raised. And one of them is morale system. My idea behind it was to make the combat more realistic when it comes to casualties and supplement the projectile mod, which increases bullet spread at the distance and makes volleys devastating close up.

Morale system makes use of morale shock, meaning that if a unit suffers heavy casualties within a short time span it is likely to waver and fall back, maybe even recover, reform and come back into the fight. So, you may lose 40 out of 100 men in 1 second and the unit will run. Imho, it is better than having 20/100 men standing among the corpses of their brothers in arms like nothing happened.

Another consideration is square formation. You may have experienced that line infantry, when formed in square formation doesn't have sufficient firepower. Furthermore, if under fire, a unit tends to reform and not fire back. This becomes even worse when you have light dragoons, which have accuracy of sharpshooters and outgun 1 side of an infantry square 2-to-1. Also, in a battle between two dragoon units, 30-40% of the casualties are from the missile fire when closing in which defeats the purpose of sabres. Finally, AI is still weak and might stop close to your infantry to fire only to get decimated by a volley.

To remedy this imbalance I'd like to:

-Remove the ability to fire mounted from light dragoons to highlight their role in harassing flanks and leave the option to dismount for use as mounted infantry in order to capture and hold positions before main forces arrive;

-Remove the square formation to make cavalry charges more lethal and remove the downsides of being in a square under fire (or exploiting the AI weakness). BUT I will adjust morale accordingly,so that infantry doesn't get steamrolled by cav.

I'd like to get insight from you!

Yeah, I think you should do both.

I think u should change the stats of the light dragoons units
decrease their range and accuracy

Light Dragoons have carbines that have a shorter range than the ordinary musket,already. Decreasing the accuracy will place dismounted dragoons at even higher disadvantage while not removing the issue of AI not prioritizing melee over missile attacks.

I'd keep square formation because there are already few things you can do against cav charge with your infantry.

I suppose it will be the sound thing to do, indeed. Will just have to experiment with cavalry stats a bit.

Yeah, I've kept the square formation. I am not sure which Ottoman mod you are referring to, but the two should be compatible, as my mod only affects 2 factions: US and Britain.
