This MOD is a (much needed) graphical overhaul for Quake 1.5 Public Beta 1: a set of texture-replacements taken from other MODs and here and there in Internet and added together to Quake 1.5, so that it also looks acceptable - or even very good! - for modern standards. Making these texture-sets work in Quake 1.5 has required a certain amount of effort, due to the complexity of the internal structure of Quake 1.5 itself. Therefore I decided to create a new MOD, name it "Quake 1.5 HD", so that everyone can easily enjoy the new weapons and the new gore system in combination with high resolution textures.

Description

If you are experiencing any sort of video problems and you normally use 125% display scaling, you can try this batch file to launch the game. It will first decrease the zoom level to 100%, then launch the game. When you have finished playing, let the script go on by pressing the enter key on its shell window and it will set the zoom level back to 125% automatically for you.

If you use Zircon Engine ("DarkPlaces Mark V"), you will not need this script. Zircon engine also renders way faster, loads maps way faster and has a mouse driven menu with regular updates.

Both Quake 1.5 and QuakeCombatPlus are both regularly tested in Zircon Engine to make sure they work great.

Also several fixes/upgrades addressing issues found in other DarkPlaces high resolution works like Rivarez Edition.

I am pointing this out because the 6 year DarkPlaces build provided with Quake 1.5 has aged poorly and has lots of quirks.

Well, the loading times are maybe very slightly better. There are some better effects, for example the sky is moving here. But on the other hand, it is clearly heavyer - I get stuttering in several situations - and everything looks a little bit too plasticky. Add to this the fact that there are also issues (in some lighting situations the screen becomes totally white and the player can't see anything) and I feel not jet motivated enough to make the jump.
But, for sure, will check how well this develops.
