The gameplay is single player/co-op/multiplayer freeforall and/or race where the goal is to complete the map following thru on whatever the mission computer says - usually complete the course as quickly as possible. Some single player/co-op missions may never require firing a weapon. The goal may simply be to gather all points possible or find the finish as quickly as possible - all stats displayed on the end score screen. Rocket thruster backwash on the boards are planned to cause damage in addition to an array of on-board weapons that fire forward, backwared, or are dropped.
