This modification originally started out as a Defense Of The Ancients clone for UT2004, but a lot of game design elements had changed over time that it started to become its own game. I am currently actively prototyping this game within RoboBlitz, and it is actually working already (with multiplayer), unlike most other Unreal Engine 3 modifications which are all in 'pre-production' phases. It is possible that two versions of this game will exist, one for RoboBlitz and one for Unreal Tournament 3. The game is heavily team based and takes a new form of cover tactics. where as most other cover games are based on the fact whether players are in cover or not, this game looks from the perspective that players are always in cover but to what extent are they in cover? Mixed with a skill system, onslaught like map node system ... I hope this game will be unique enough to stand out against all the other mods out there.

Hello all. I was wondering what the word was on weapons? If custom guns are needed, I would like to start on one.

May 26 2007 Anchor

I agree, and would like to start on some weapons if possible.

May 26 2007 Anchor

Right, I'm still thinking up of the final design, but to let you know early, there are only two weapons in this game. There is a standard machine gun, and then there is a shotgun. The two weapons fit the two different styles of play, and I didn't want to clutter the game with several useless variants of them. I felt there was no need for a pistol type weapon.

The machine gun is designed for a singular target action, with a secondary providing general cover. The shotgun is able to target multiple people, however its secondary action is unknown at this point. Still have to think that one up.

Both weapons could be stylized like Gears Of War, I'd have no problems with that, but I will see if I can come up with some concepts today.

Sound good SS. Well ozymandias24, do you have a preference for which one you would like to do? Im fine with either.

May 26 2007 Anchor

shouldn't there be an assault rifle too? Shotguns don't have much range and machine guns aren't very mobile for troops that need to quickly capture points.

May 26 2007 Anchor

I think that machine gun was/is the assault rifle... He did say standard MG.

The avatars your playing are heroic characters, not standard grunts. Everyone likes being a hero :D. The point of the two weapons is really to differentiate the style of attacking. The machine gun provides quick singular targetting, while the shotgun shoots a wide range of people. I really wanted to focus on simplicity.

Simplicity on its own sounds boring and dumb, I know, but think of the game more as a collection of simplistic objectives that I hope together will be interesting. I didn't really want to design the game with several types of similar guns ... that don't differentiate from each other very much. The machine gun is more or less an assault rifle too .. or whatever. All it is, is a gun which can only target one person at a time, but shoot faster than the shotgun ... whereas the shotgun shoots several targets at a time but is slower.

I could get all technical about the differences between machine guns and assault rifles but since the characters have superhuman strength there is no need for assault rifles.

May 27 2007 Anchor

I don't have a preference, machine gun or shotgun is fine with me.

May 27 2007 Anchor

Then I call dibs on the shotgun. Will post concept as soon as I draw it.

@philibuster- OK, I also know the many differences between machine guns and assault rifles. Your post had no point. Thanks?

He was just highlighting a possible consideration. Its ok to bring up points like that, and know the answer to it. Ok, can't wait to see the concept for the shotgun.

Wait so you want a concept machine gun or a real world gun? I'm not a concept artist so I could only model stuff I have pictures for.

Would it be cool with everyone if I did a masada

Its got some aspects like a g36 but its a really new gun still in prototype

May 28 2007 Anchor

Looks good to me.

[EDIT] SS, will these weapons have flashlight capabilities? Will I need to model a light on mine?

i've always loved the g36 personally. Whats the polycount target for the guns?

May 29 2007 Anchor

There isn't a need for a flash light. Ideally the guns will be kind of big and bulky like Gears Of War, but the two guns above will be good. The polycount should ideally be around 1k - 2K , which should be more than enough considering it is third person. Either one is fine, feel free to choose which one you would prefer to model.

I would prefer the G36 if no one has any complaints.

May 29 2007 Anchor

Go for it. Although if you can make it a bit bulkier and make it appear to shoot larger bolts that would be great. Some of the Warhammer 40K stuff is a good reference point. Images.google.co.nz.

Before you start modelling, make a concept view first. Base it on the G36 if you want to. I'm not aiming for a true realism game, but I'd like to see concepts at the very least please.

This is mainly because of the sci-fi / fantasy elements to the game. Having a real-world existing gun in this game would be too bizzare. For example, people are wearing these fantastical armor sets .. but they are weilding this little pea shooter (any gun in real-world would be considered a pea shooter in this world) ... doesn't make a lot of sense.

If your willing to wait for me to come up with a suitable design, then thats cool. Otherwise, feel free to bring out the sketch pad.

Okey dokey. I was surfing around, looking for some concept subject matter, and came across a site where NERF guns are custom painted.
So I found this pic, and figured it would work just fine for my shotgun.

SS, if this will work visually, I will get started ASAP.

May 29 2007 Anchor

That looks awesome. I guess you would have to make some slight admentments to it to make it look more shot gunny, such as a pump action handle, or barrels ... but definately something like this would be fantastic! Excellent find!

May 29 2007 Anchor

great reference pic 3D Texturizer.

May 29 2007 Anchor

Thanks. Just call me 3D.

I found this one, and thought it would be nice for the assault gun. I think it would need just a little added to the front. But that would be up to the modeler.

it has more of a grenade launcher feel to it to me.

May 30 2007 Anchor

That one looks pretty sweet, would need some stuff at the front to work as a assult rifle however.
