Portal: Black Forest Edition is an advanced-mode campaign for the test chambers in Portal. This mod aims to cater to those who enjoyed the atmosphere and feel of the test chambers in Portal, but felt that they were too simple and did not provide enough of a puzzle challenge. All 20 test chambers will be remade and revamped to be much more challenging, but each will retain the same general layout, concepts, and testing elements it had in the original game. Portal: Black Forest Edition is for those Portal fans who love the first Portal's atmosphere and puzzles, but who crave new challenges from the game.

Hey everyone!
Portal: Black Forest Edition is a mod I'm working on for Portal 1. I just wanted to explain what the mod is and how the development process might go.
Portal: Black Forest Edition is basically an advanced-mode mod for Portal 1. My goal with it is to retain the atmosphere that made Portal 1 great, and keep the design and testing elements pretty similar in each test chamber, but add some challenge. Every puzzle will be redesigned, and I'm not holding back in terms of difficulty.
Unfortunately, I'm not great at judging the difficulty of my own puzzles. If you'd like to test them out, feel free to contact me on ModDB and I can send you the maps; I'd greatly appreciate that. The goal is for experienced Portal players to take longer than their first playthrough of Portal to complete the mod, so hopefully I can add enough difficulty for that to be the case.
At the moment, I'd like to recreate every test chamber. I do not have plans to do the escape sections, mainly because I don't think I can add anything to them. So, naturally, the ending I have in mind is also different from the original. Who knows, though? With a name like "Black Forest Edition," maybe you'll even get your hands on some cake...
I don't have infinite time to devote to Portal mapping, and as it is I'm a pretty slow mapper, so unfortunately it will probably be quite a long time before this mod is released. I do find BEE to be helpful when designing puzzles, but I'm not a fast mapper, so I can't say for sure when it might be finished. As of now, I do plan on seeing this project through to completion, but I can't promise I'll have enough time in the future. Even if the mod gets cancelled, I will definitely release the maps I have, if anyone wants to play them.

And here's a playthrough of my recreation of Chamber 04, so you can get a sense of how the mod will play:

Will this be coming out anytime soon? It looks pretty cool.
Are you still here?
You can recreate every test chamber, but you still need to decompile the advanced test chambers from Portal 1, and add it into this mod, which is Advanced Test Chambers 13-18 from the Original Portal.
I am only using the original advanced chambers that should not be changed.
This looks really interesting, I can't wait for it to release!
Incidentally, how do you get the ideas for making the chambers more difficult?
This looks like it would be fun mod once it is released based on the screenshots, so keep up the good work but don't stress yourself out. Also, if the original portal had advanced levels that makes the game more difficult (Like changing the floor into deadly goo, or changing the cube into a ball in test 17) I can't imagine how difficult advanced levels of this mod would be, so that could be an idea for an update (Another idea is an advanced version of the "Still Alive" levels)
Also also, I chuckled at room 00's screenshot, I'll let other people see for themselves if they went straight to the comments without spoiling it, but that is good humor (At least for me) for a mod that isn't gonna go easy on the player.
This looks very interesting, and looks like it'll be fun to play and get mad at (in a good way)
Thanks, hopefully it'll be hard enough lol
I saw this on Reddit!
Nice, where?
