In an alternate universe, set during the Seven Hour War, you find yourself plunged into the depths of an abandoned Aperture facility. Abyss explores the failed ambitions of the once-flourishing company, and the legacy it left behind. As the war rages above, you as the player will be confronted not only to the imminent danger it poses, but also to the existential nightmare from which it all started as you are taken deeper into the facility than ever before. Your choices have consequences, and your actions dictate your survival -- or lack thereof.

I can say from the new synopsis that the mod is getting better. I like the Combine tech mixed with this old warehouse.

It resembles structures from the Half-Life 2 but still with the aperture theme, I'm really starting to like these.

Will the combine tech be through the entire game or just the start?

Just the start. It is not possible to use NPC in Portal 2. However, we might see some of them in the skybox when we are near the surface.

Yah it's kinda sad that there's no NPC support.. but to be fair it exists some workarounds for that... unfortunately consumes a lot of the engine resources to do it... and the end result is kinda wierd..

I'm pretty sure the makers of Portal Stories: Mel mentioned that there's npc's. It comes out in a few days, so we'll see then, but I'm pretty sure it should work. Another work around is to build it in hl2 or sfm, convert it to a .bik, and play it as a video in game.

Sry man, it's 100% sure that it doesn't, Portal 2 engine doesn't have AI support, they're for sure using the workarounds that i have mentioned.

Since none of the main P2 characters (except for Chell herself) walks, all the AI features from HL2 was removed... so there is not stuff like, NPC walk, lipsync, the Hl2 way to do scripted sequences.. they even removed the code that allows you (the player) to climb up that vertical stairs. =P

True, I believe they animated a couple of human models and work their way around like that.
I though about doing that for the intro but I will remain with SFM instead.

just remember that the combine should not look like the HL2 Combine...

But like I said earlier, it may be easier to just use sfm and use a logic_playmovie

Dude they are exactly what Pac0 and I said, they're animated prop_dynamics with path_tracks and func_tracktrains to walk, they in no instance are NPC's like the ones in Hl2, that's why they're always out of reach =P

I know that they're not npc's, at least as they're typically in other source games. However it shows that there are some pretty convincing work arounds and serves as a proof on concept for others to base their work on.

Yah i know, i even mentioned this workarounds in a previous post, and i never said it was impossible to do it, i'm just saying that the A.I stuff from Hl2, is non existent in P2.

Hopefully Valve will start releasing the source code to their games again so that future games won't have issues like this. But as far as AI, I did see one mod mount hl2 content to P2, which allowed for more npc interaction. May be worth a try! :P

Although it maybe pretty hard to happen.. it would be great if valve release it, as about this mod you've mentioned.. i never heard of it.. could you send me a link or something? it sounds like very interesting stuff. =P

No worry, if you can Run portal 2, you should be able to run Abyss.

it's not that, my pc is really bad. (I liked hl2 cause I could play with textures at maximun and at 30-50 fps, while on portal 2 I get like 10fps at minimun.)
