Painkiller: Lost Alpha is a modification for the original game and the Battle Out of Hell expansion. The concept is simple: a recreation of an early game version, the one that the developers of People Can Fly originally conceived in 2002-2003. Lost Alpha returns cut and early content, recreates developers unrealized ideas, and uses material that has not been used. However, this is not the only thing: like any other mod, LA also tries to provide a good gaming experience, fix the original game bugs and give new impressions.

Description

Install: NOTE: The mod is adapted for the Black Edition v1.64 version, the one that is available on Steam and GOG. Stable work on other versions is not guaranteed. Compatibility with other mods is also not guaranteed. NOTE 2: The mod may work unstable on the original game Steam version. In case of stability problems, it is recommended to install the mod on the GOG version. To install the mod, Painkiller: Black Edition v1.64 is required. Unpack this archive into the game root folder (for example: C:\DreamCatcher\Painkiller\) with files replacement. Optionally, you can make backup copies of the files being replaced. If there is a Levels folder in the Data folder after installing - delete it, after which you can start the game and play the mod. If necessary, change the game settings for yourself. Have a nice game!

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but the game always crashes upon loading the next level or if I'll change some graphics options or other settings. Is it a bug or it's just me having this problem? I installed this mod on the original Painkiller from steam.

Game may crash for no reason due to the engine "features", but not often, and when you change the settings, there should be no crashes at all. Try to completely uninstall the game, reinstall it and then install the mod.

This happens only when I change the settings before starting the level, then the game randomly crashes upon loading the level. If I'm not changing anything - the game works fine.

The way I installed the mod:

I installed the game through steam platform first, then I downloaded a mod from here and installed this mod to the game folder like from the instructions. That's how this crashing problem started.

I want to say that the Steam version is not particularly stable. Nothing like this happens on the GOG version.

That explains why the game is crashing, but anyway somehow I'll survive that. I'm actually playing the game on your mod and the mod itself looks very promising and incredibly good, can't wait to see the rocket jump trick in the future tho :)

Thank you for the nice words! For a rocket jump, you will have to stock up on a lot of health or take a powerup/Tarot card that gives immortality. Good luck and have a nice game! ;)

I just found a bug: If you'll try to freeze zombies during the 4th level in BOOH campaign with the shotgun and shoot them - the game will crash without any error message.

На данный момент есть только английский язык, но если удастся разобраться со шрифтами, то в будущем обновлении появится русская локализация.

Any ideas where I can find last 6 missing monsters for the galleon level to unlock the tarot card? I found few after reaching to the last checkpoint, but I think I missed somewhere those last ones before encountering the 2 final pirates.

The advice is this: after you pass through the destroyed ship and climb the stairs, before passing through the next checkpoint, go back to the cleared locations - perhaps there are more monsters hiding there. And in general, explore the nooks and crannies in those zones - the enemies are hiding in a variety of places. The level is quite sly in this regard, but that's what I like about it :)

Thanks, man. I managed to find them inside of the cave. Btw: I already completed my walkthrough in your mod and I really enjoyed playing Lost Alpha 2.0, but the bugs that still presents in-game has to be fixed.
