A quick update on what's been happening in the past few months.

Posted by on

I realise that it has been many months since I have posted any updates on the game, and there hasn't been much activity on this page. I had temporarily stopped working on the mod once DOOM (2016) was released and straight after I had exams. Once my exams were over I forgot about the mod and began creating YouTube tutorials on creating custom maps in DOOM I & II, and even this has been a bit on and off recently. And recently, I've just been having overall problems coming up in life, but I'm trying to work on the mod as much as possible as of today. I will make a note of my progress so far.

The Devil Sleeps - April 25th 2016

  • Performed heavy work on MAP01. Made the intro cutscene skippable when the +USE key is pressed. Added more ammo, health and armour pick-ups as well as re-designing and re-texturing certain parts of the level. Balanced monsters out to match the difficulties better. Most changes are relatively small but impact gameplay.
  • Touched up on MAP02. Completely changed the textures in all rooms except out-doors. Added a more puzzle-like feel to the level, more changes will probably be made regarding this later on in development. Moved enemies around and adjust the difficulty settings to make the level as a whole more fair and placed a few more drops and obstacles for aesthetics. Fixed blue door. Removed secret keycard as it had no use.
  • Made some changes in MAP03. Made an attempt to increase the difficulty of the level's puzzle aspect. Added a new room for puzzle purposes. Replaced some textures and fixed the hidden teleporter. Level can now be completed from a pistol start, and in general. Mainly fixed issues in the level.
  • Updated MAP04. Re-textured entire level to be based more outdoors, was originally a section of facility lost in hell. Made rock walls more randomly shaped for effect of hills and mountains and am continuing work on the level.

Future Updates

  • Fix the missing door sounds somehow
  • Complete MAP04, make it long and much more puzzle-like
  • Add more textures, enemies and hopefully weapons to the game
  • Try to add ambient sounds that play throughout the level
  • Possibly add cutscenes - Not going to do this
  • Add sound sequences that are triggered by certain actions, and that maybe go along with certain cutscenes

So yeah, this shows you how much work hasn't been done on the mod since the last big update which was around January time. To all those who have found this mod and who are eager for it's release, I hope you haven't given up just yet as I am continuing work on the mod as of today. I'll see you all in the next update.
