Dynamic Fog, Opposing Force 2 Platinum, the new Outlands...

Posted by on

Ever thought about a fog on Half-Life 2 that looks real and acts normally? Ever thought of how would that fog act on the Source Engine? Well, here it is: the Advanced Dynamic Fog, made out of a bunch of floating sprites, the Dynamic Fog, as we prefer to call it, acts just as a real fog; Covers the space it's supposed to, and the most important: Works for pollution, works for a fog you'd see in a rainy forest, or works as a dirty fog, that morphs itself to a dirty mud floor. The most interesting about this "new" fog, is that mappers won't need to add it to the whole map, as the HL2 fog works. They can cover the map with spots they want with fog, and they can leave spots they don't want clean and without fog. Here is an example of it: Img228.imageshack.us

...And another one: Img80.imageshack.us

As you can see, the dynamic fog acts as a real fog, releases dust puffs all around the place, and there is no single need of a HL2 kind of fog on it. It even blends with the skybox. Adding to the mappers an easy way to work with it, the dynamic fog promises to do its job.

Now let's talk about Opposing Force 2 Platinum. I mean, what is that? An expansion pack? Basically. It will include better looking remakes of each Opposing Force 2 map, will basically re-texture every single default Opposing Force 2 Textures and important textures that are seen everywhere on the mod. (Grass, sand, concrete walls, ect) AND, it will add new maps for each chapter (Giving the chapters more action, and the game, more gameplay time). But fans ask: Well, why not just add it together with OpFor 2? Because it's an addon. People will already have to download around 3 GBs. (Compressed 700MBs), and the Platinum is supposed to be around 1 GB. So it's optional. Since it doesn't change anything in the storyline, you won't have to download it if you don't want to. It's just a greater and better looking way to play OpFor 2. Its release date is confirmed to be months after the Opposing Force 2 release, which is expected to be on the year 2010.

I, myself, got help on polishing the maps. Walkermag is helping me while I am going to help him. With new changes up on Outlands, we got a real big difference seen on the map. See example here: Img80.imageshack.us

...And here: Img228.imageshack.us

And, also, we are all sorry for the Barnacle Tech Demo. Some unexpected stuff happened these days. Penguin didn't log in since a week and we are probably looking forward for a new coder.
