oof.wad WAS an abomination of a WAD where I took almost a year making absolutely nothing, but recently I've actually been adding a few features to the WAD which I actually feel gives this WAD just a tiny bit of novelty. I'm gonna be releasing updates here and there for this, and you'll eventually see what I mean.
Here's some context. At the beginning of 2019, when my self-esteem was still untouched and I wasn't really dealing with "teenage" problems, I started development on this WAD. It was just kind of a funny joke to show to my friends, but it was also a way to show them how Doom modding isn't that hard. Problem is, I didn't know what S_START and S_END was yet, and that completely ruined my ability to import sprites for the most part. This was a HUGE drawback that prevented me from making anything that notable. It was infuriating. After a few hours, I had what my brain thought I was able to do, and I made a teaser trailer for it. It's currently up on my YouTube channel, and it's also uploaded to this mod's page just in-case my channel gets fucked. Ironically, I stopped even touching it a few days later, because it got really boring.
Fast forward to the middle of 2019. Me and my friend, Cody, were working on another joke WAD called ert.wad. That WAD will probably never be finished due to the fact that we don't talk much anymore. The process of making that WAD HEAVILY reminded me of oof.wad, and I decided I would take another stab at it. It was once again boring. I did make a development video for it to let people know that this WAD was still being made, but I kinda forgot about it again. Just like the Teaser Trailer, that video is up on my YT channel and this mod's page.
Fast forward to the end of 2019. I try taking one more stab. I felt like oof.wad was being teased to the public for too long. So I caved, released the first prototype, and made a release trailer for it. Like the two previous videos, that vid's on my channel, and this mod's page. I really wanted to add custom sprites at this point, so I looked at some other WADs with custom sprites, and I eventually processed the idea of S_START and S_END. I've never had a problem with sprites since. This is when I actually started making notable features like the fist's normal-ish mode and big fucking magic mode, the shotgun's minigun-like aiming fire, the BONGO9000, etc.
In conclusion, I've accepted the fact that this WAD is a distant side-project, and I'm not gonna get much out of it. I will say this though. Right now, as I'm writing this, I'm burned out from music, so I guess this is a thing I could focus on more for now. This WAD doesn't have much novelty, but will get more as it's developed. Pretty much, I literally forgot two words that tells the game to replace the normal shotgun with the custom one. The new player class doesn't have the default shotgun in its normal loadout, which screws up your weapon inventory where you can't switch back to ANY other weapon without going into console and typing "take shotgun". This also prevents you from getting the custom shotgun in the game without cheats, specifically "give brutalshotgun". This might also happen with the chaingun, but I was running the mod on Chex Quest instead, so I don't 100% know whether it happens on DooM or not, I'll have to check. Sadly, if you are also subbed to my YT channel, you'll know my computer has been broken down for almost three weeks now. Luckily, tomorrow is my birthday, and I can release a new version of oof.wad by the end of this week. I hope you guys will enjoy it.
