OSMT News (SuperApe - May 7, 2007) : I'm proud to present the modDB profile for Old Skool Monsta Toolz, a project I've worked on for the better part of a year and a half. It started as a simple question, "Why can't I just place monsters in any Unreal map?" and what followed was a re-construction, re-vision, re-implementation of the original Unreal AI design for use in Unreal Tournament 2004.
Eventually, the obvious question, "Why doesn't UT2004 have a Single Player gametype?", was answered with the included OSM Adventure gametype, which now includes CoOp support, complete cutscene support, plus many miscellaneous additions and improvements that allow mappers to create vitually any type of game that includes a player avatar (from shooter to platformer to mystery, etc)
There's just too much to this tiny add-on toolset to list here. Poison/Antedote support, Deathscene support, easy implementation of custom players, creatures, behaviors, weapons, vehicles, loading screens, etc. You've heard the addage, "Good things come in small packages." This mod is proof of that.
Since its release in August of 2006, OSMT has sparked the interest of the UT2004 mapping community and led to an OSM Adventure mapping contest on Unreal Playground. The Unreal Playground OSM Adventure Map Archive includes a few straighforward shooter adventures, a funny vision of future cleaning technology and an homage to Resident Evil's mystery/zombie horror series. Other maps in development include a MicroMachine racing game, a myst-like puzzle mystery game and several "stock gametype" maps for Unreal Tournament 2004 that include these "smart monstas". (DM, ONS, BR, etc)
I will finish the profile here shortly and include screenshots of some of the maps menioned above. The upcoming update to this release version will include the long-requested Save/Load feature (see previous news item), plus a few extra suprises. As always, updates are backwards compatible.
Thanks for visiting.
