The "New Horizons" mod for the 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean game by Akella is a continuation of the famous Build mod series. Developed as Pirates of the Caribbean Build 14, "New Horizons" continued where Build 13 left off, adding more new content than ever before.
Here's a preview of yet another HMS Surprise incarnation soon to be released, but this has to be the most detailed yet!
This is very good! I wonder if these new ships you're putting in the game look as detailed when you're standing on the deck?
When I played PotC, what I didn't like was that when you're on your own ship walking around it wasn't detailed.
Look at the video called "Heading Out". That is what you see when you first leave port in the starter ship. That is an older model. This is an old game and there are still some original ships in it, but they are being improved as well as being replaced by better models like the Surprise.
Hopefully the new image I've uploaded will demonstrate just that... ;)
This isn't HMS Surprise it's HMS Providence(joking). They both look very similar
There is a Providence model in the works, based on this one. The differences are clear once you see what's been done so far, and it's quite interesting. We will ensure the two ships use slightly different textures, too.
That's because the same real ship, HMS Rose, was used to play the role of both these ships.
The HMS Rose is one of the ships of the San Diego Maritime Museum.
I visit her all the time. She's puny next to the Star of India. Hey! there's a ship we should put in the game sometime! :)
What era is the Star of India from? She gives me a more modern impression; maybe too modern for the game?
Yeah she's too modern. She first sailed in 1863. Plus she's made of iron. She's the world's oldest active sailing ship. They're building a new ship, the San Salvador. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's ship when he discovered San Diego Bay on September 28, 1542. She'd be a nice addition the game. :)
OMG THE FIRST ONE WAS GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!
