Spent some time porting the doll_monkey asset from Rebirth to The Dark Descent. All rights go to Frictional Games for the model, textures, and animations.

I remade the entity file from scratch and have the monkey as an interactable ragdoll as it is in Rebirth. Other than that I just converted monkey_doll.fbx to a Collada model, converted all FBX animations to Collada (the animations appear buggy; use and/or include with cation if using this asset for a mod), inverted the normal map's blue channel, converted the specular map to work with HPL 2, and finally purged any unneeded files.

Overall small asset port, but who knows, maybe someone will find some use for it.


There are 3 included entities:

  • doll_monkey.ent (Grabbable Ragdoll)
  • doll_monky_no_gravity.ent (Space Monke)
  • doll_monkey_stable.ent (Non-Grabbable Ragdoll that usually doesn't explode and crash the entire game.)

The asset, by default, is facing -Z. This makes the monkey face away in the editor's thumbnail of it (deal with it, to hell with rotating all the entity components in the model editor.) Also, by default it appears quite small when placed so you'll want to scale it to something appropriate like 2X.

If you are brave enough to use the doll_monke.ent, just make sure you grab the monkey by the torso or else you will have brown spaghetti everywhere. (The grabbable entity is good for posing.)
