The base went dark 20 years ago.. It really has been that long. God all the memories come rushing back. I hear somthing. By God, it's the radio they heard me! Oh God there's somthing else I know that moan it's a zombie. Here we go again...

Um... 20 years after Half-Life, Half-Life 2 begins, so the Combine will have already taken over. Fun fact: The Race X in Opposing Force were actually sent by the Combine to investigate Earth to determine wetehr or not it was worth taking over. They took the oppertunity to send forces through when Gordon Freeman created a portal to Xen, when the Combine already colonized. That is who the Xen are fighting against before the encounter the humans.
This takes place quite a few years before half-life. I theorize that the humans would have set up research bases on Xen, to study the aliens. This base got overrun.
