I'm not quite sure that's right actually... In the intro, I think he's escorting Ecologists - he doesn't have any idea who Clear Sky are until Lebedev explains in their camp.

I'm gonna have to agree with Beac on this one.

They are Ecologists in the intro, but when is the next time you see someone in an SSP99 suit? Never. And isn't it odd that the Ecologists, from Yantar, are all the way in the Swamp?

It could have been coincidence that Scar was leading a group of them in the Swamp - and there's nothing to suggest that as friendly as Clear Sky is - that they wouldn't offer a similar service to the Scientists.

Also, recall in CoP that the scientists there did trade a suit to Major Degtyarev for services. Therefore, to me, it is plausible that they might part with a few suits for services that Clear Sky would be uniquely qualified to provide.

So ultimately, it's not that these are real Scientists in the Clear Sky base. Rather, these are Clear Sky who have been lucky enough to earn an SSP-99 from the Scientists. It's a hint at things to come when you're finally able to buy the suit yourself later on.

This is my way of showing a link between Clear Sky and the Scientists. In this case, you could imagine that Clear Sky might have loaned a guide to the Scientists to get a few of their suits, since the Swamps are so dangerous.

I thought it would be a nice touch.

Does that help? :)

In the beginning, Lebedev just made it sound like Scar had no idea what Clear Sky even was.

Have to agree with SA here. It's extremely plausible that Clear Sky would have gotten their hands on some science-focused hardware, especially an Ecologist suit.

Plus, considering the Ecologists' and Clear Sky's similar goals and philosophies, it's very likely that they would work together, sharing information, equipment and services. I think this is a great touch of atmosphere, and it helps the universe seem connected, rather than just a bunch of factions each holed up somewhere, living in their own little worlds.

Description

In M.I.N.E., high-ranking Clear Sky Stalkers may be wearing the SSP99. This meshes with the introductory movie where we see Scar escorting some scientists.
