The 'Middle Earth Roleplaying Project' aims to recreate J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth in the Creation engine of 'Skyrim'. The player will be plunged into Middle Earth near the end of the Third Age, not long before the War of the Ring breaks out.
WOOW
That's pretty damn big!
That's what she said!
I hope "she" won't say:
"I can't finish that, it is too huge"
Remember what happened to the Oblivion LotR TC..
Holee guacamolee.
What about the other locations on Arda? I would love to go to Numenor even though this mod is called Middle-Earth Roleplaying Project and not Arda Roleplaying Project... Nice map!
(buried)

On top of that, Numenor is sunk by the Third Age, Aman has been removed from the circles of the World, the New Lands in the distant east/west are uninhabbited, and we honestly haven't much info on what goes on out there. Even if we could, by some miracle, make a mod that occupied that much space, filling it effectively would be very dificult. Don't worry, there are a lot of things to see just in these regions. Pinnath Gellin, Dol Amroth, Pelargir (done right, unlike Peter Jackson's tumble-down shack version), Erebor, and many, many more will be in MERP in their entirety.
Be real mate, the developers are only humans...
Numenor doesn't exist anymore in the 3rd age ;)
After all Elendil, Isildur and Anarion come to ME because they flee the destruction of Numenor.
This only might(!) be a possible expansion after MERP 1.0; and you would have to start a new character since there is no time travel in ME ;)
Edit: Dammit ModDB, why don't you display answers poperly
I know it sank which is a pity. I used to play this cool mod for Rise of the Withc-King which added the Numernoreans, quite cool and well done.
At any rate, good luck with the mod and sorry for the double post.
Didn't Numenor have a big tower in the center of the island which wasn't sunk? Just curious.
Not a tower, a mountain. It was a called Meneltarma. Legend has it that the summit, hallowed by one of the Valar (it was either Yavana or Varda, can't remember which (though I am relatively sure it was Varda)), didn't sink by became an island in the sea. However, no one has ever found it and returned. My personal theory as to why is that the peak lies on the edge of the two worlds, the Straight path which leads to Aman, and the bent path that leads around the world (the bent path is the world as it was after the Fall); as such the Isle of Meneltarma may or may not be found in either waters. It is said though, that men who die at see will come to/pass by that island and see affar the white shores of Aman before finally dying and departing from Arda. But then, that is just legend.
HOLY **** THATS AWESOME
I've seen it! But still very cool. I just knew that Rohan was WAY too small in the Oblivion version (:
Never know, after the mod is released they might even add more locations :) We'll have to wait and see :).
Not much chance of that, we're going to hit the 32-bit RAM limit at the end of MERP's development. Anything new would need to be stand-alone.
So epic O.O
Holy ****! Thats like... HUGE! o_O
Do want
That's awesome, I have a question: Seeing as though it is much bigger than Skyrim will we need much better computers? In other words, what will specs be? Keep up the good work by the way! :)
The best part is not only is the map massive but professionally acurate! :)
please tell me annuminas, fornot erain and Amon Sul can be restored in this mod
After the War ends, Gondor and Arnor are reunited. The restoration of Arnor, the rebuilding of Osgiliath, and the establishment of the new city at Emyn Arnen will all be simulated in 1.0. The player will be able to help with this restoration.
Have you thought of adding a perspective enhancement, which makes things far away, look even father in the distance? I think Age Of Conan uses it. Not sure, but it will make the world look even more massive and stunning.
....and why do the 2 maps have so many differences in elevations and terrain?
I assume you mean the Oblivion to Skyrim comparison? That is for several reasons. One is that totally different methods were used in the development of each. Second is that we intentionally made Skyrim's mountains shorter, because the Oblivion mountains' size just made them take up way too much space. Thirdly, the new one is traced straight off of an actual LOTR map and Maegfaer made large usage of the Atlas of Middle Earth to determine how terain should be, so things are much more detailed from the start.
I can't wait to see the Mines of Moria. That will be one of the most grand of the places to adventure. One question though, will the mines actually take a while to get through like in the lore? It's a 3 day trip, and the major fighting only happens at the end so will there be mystery and adventure for something like 10-20 minutes before you arrive at Balin's tomb?
Is there any possibility for the creation of "Rogue" evil characters, such as haradriim wanderers who decided to turn good, or those turned to good by Rostreamo and Morginetar? It'd be nice to see a possible alternate setup to an Ithilien ranger type as a Southron, in my opinion.
Hey guys, looking awesome, can't wait for this to be released! I'm wondering, because you plan to add new races, will each race just look different or will they have other features too? For example, combat ability, resistances and unique interactions with NPC's (Like in Skyrim they have a form of 'racism')?
@austinjames77: Let's just say that choosing your race will have a lot more impact in MERP then it did in Skyrim ;)
Ooh, good good. Any hints or anything as to what the impacts may be? :)
Significant racial offsets and limitations. This is a single player game, so unlike with a MMO we don't need to disregard the lore for balancing reasons. You want to play a Hobbit? Great, just realize that a Hobbit is a lot weaker in combat than almost all other races.
Sweet, I was hoping for something like that, will the Hobbits have other perks or advantages in combat? Like stealth or something? :)
Hobbits will have high stealth and agility and excellent bow skills. They are good at other forms of combat techniques, but are not that strong. So therein lies the biggest limitation for a hobbit.
Cool, will the bows be like on Skyrim (tedious and underpowered) or will they pack a bigger punch? Like 1 hit head shots and upper body kills? :) I promise to stop hassling you with questions if you answer this lol :)
Bows will be better and will become deadlier faster (the main issue in Skyrim is the endless grind before arrows are actually useful). One hit kills with headshots may be either a perk in normal mode or a standard feature in the optional realism mode.
Great, sounds like how Skyrim should be lol :) Always annoyed me when you'd get people running around attacking you with arrows sticking out of their head...glad it'll be more realistic and immersive. :)
what about starting locations. will be only one or more. because i cant imagine that orc have the same start location as elf or human
Does Tamriel suck? No
Does Tamriel suck compared to Middle earth? Yes
Are you gonna miss this up? I hope not, if you do, I kill you!
Do this mod evolve if you are dead? No
... dont mess this up!
Thou kill anyone of the merp crew, and thou be swallowed by a Tidal wave of Angry Merp lovers!
will you be able to go to the region where the hobbit takes place around, i would love to go to Beorns house or samugs mountain:)
No you can't. The only place to walk into is Mordor... and that is a challenge. One does not simply walk into Mordor. No other places than Mordor. Only Mordor. Check the front-page for more info on that one. :P
Looking at the map i'd say YES. ;)
I know it's realistically impossible, given that the devs are only 40-50 human beings who have lives and are not being paid to do this. But this mod would theoretically not only develop the areas of Rohan, Gondor, Mordor and Arnor, ( Seeing as those areas are the ones people are most familiar with ) but also Rhovanion and the Brown Lands? Then there also is the question of including subzones within these territories such as: Mirkwoord, Angmar/Carn Dum, various Dwarven mountains including the Iron Hills and Ered Luin, etc.
Given all this work, needed for Middle Eart itself, would the devs say that work on the borders of Middle-Earth, shown in the provided map as Rhun, Umbar, South Gondor, Near Harad, will be virtually non-existent?
I know anything is possible at this point, but I feel that all the devs are already doing everyone such an unthinkable favour, that to ask more would seem to be remiss. Perhaps you could tell us the specifics of what you will be focusing on developing after the release of Rohan?
I would be eager to help in anyway, but seeing as I am not a modder...I guess I could write quests or something?
Thanks!
If you look at the map i think you will know the answer. ;)
hi guys great job your doing I just want to ask a favour. If you dont mind I would like if you could send me a quick video tutorial on how to create a heighmap, cause Im creating a mod a new world with the size maybe as yours 9 or 7 times the size of skyrim and Im really stuck at the heighmap so If you dont mind, I hope this isnt a silly question but I would really like if you could send me a quick video of how to create a heighmap using heighmap editor to this mail "joaoseixo08@gmail.com"
