Mario Kart Source aims to bring the fun and excitement of the Mario Kart series to the PC though the powerful Source engine used in Half Life 2. We hope to create the ultimate version of Mario Kart (MK) by combining all of the best aspects into one game. We're not simply recreating one version of MK, but using the best parts of each. We want to have all the traditional weapons, characters, and maps but also bring out new weapons that make game-play interesting. We're redesigning the maps so that they keep their appeal, but truly utilize the power of the source engine. We plan to have at least 16 different characters, all the ones you know and love as well as some others from the Super Mario World. We want this mod to reflect what you guys want in a Mario Kart game. Have some cool weapon ideas? What special characters do you want? What about maps? We want to know! And now the question on everybody's mind, a beta release. “When is it?” “Is it a closed beta?”...

Finally our January news is here with a plea going out to the community... Yes, we know this month’s news comes late and yes we know you want this mod to be released so badly that some of you have been driven mad just from the sheer thought of having to wait for a Beta release. Unfortunately this news isn’t going to be all that grand or exciting but I have to say with confidence that the project IS slightly changing gears.

“Well what does that mean???”

This is what I am sure all of you are thinking at this exact moment. As you all know our lack of solid game code has delayed progress considerably so we have shifted focus slightly towards the source (no pun intended) of the problem. We are searching the immense world of independent game developers for help with working on code. So far we have one potential new coder candidate and more are in the works. To get this mod moving again we have to strike at the heart of the development process and gather up coders who can focus on the objective. Our main goal at the moment is trying to recruit hard working talented people.

Although we mainly need coders we are also looking for modelers and animators to join the MKS team. If you or someone you know has experience with 3D modeling and has the time come apply.

I'm not sure how the fact that they need coders is great news.

I think that some people comment without reading, lol.

Well, it's bad to know that you need coders, but you can deal with this, i'm sure that really soon someone will reply an e-mail saying that they want to be your coder.

Lack of coders seem to be the number one cause of mod death these days :( Hope it doesn't happen to this one.

Don't you hate it when you wait for updates on the mods you watch just to find out that when you do finally get an update it just says about some news of the mod and nothing about it coming soon or anything?

I just have one question.

What ever happened to the playable versions you guys showed off in the "release" trailers?
