Manifested Fate is an adult survival horror adventure RPG which features incredible detail, emphasis on crafting and reaction to player choices.
Manifested Fate is releasing tomorrow on Moddb but I think everyone needs an introduction to it first.
When developing this module I wanted to create an adventure which would test the player's ability to be resourceful. Like in a true survival horror, the player will need to be careful in combat as injuries can only be treated by the limited medical kits that you can acquire and craft. Being set in a plague ravaged city also means that shops have closed down so the only way to acquire new equipment is to find it or (most often) craft new equipment with material you find. You'll find that crafting and upgrading your equipment can be the difference between life and death. With that said I'd like to go onto describing all the features and elements of this mod starting with the crafting.
The system of crafting is simple and uses a custom script I have invented. I call it the Craft It System: The player will be able to craft bastard swords, two-handed-swords, battleaxes, arrows, longbows and create healing kits for their adventure. Resources are limited however and thus the player must decide carefully as to what they wish to create using a simple but sturdy custom craft system.
Shown below is the easy to use Craft It System:
Healing and Equipment Management:
Putting crafting and limited resources to one side and we have some hardcore elements. In many of today's survival horror games or mods, there are many ways to heal your character. Not in Manifested Fate. Only healing kits and potions heal your character. The former aren't always guaranteed to work (if you're lacking in healing skill) and the later are completely rare (and probably best saved for dire combat encounters). No resting means that the player must play especially extra attention to combat encounters and their health.
Equipment management plays a heavy role: The player must be careful in their use of resources as all are limited. Do you sacrifice healing kits to heal your allies and retain help? Or do you save them all for yourself?
Gender, Dialogue and Character:
There is also unique dialogue and scenarios for both genders. Male and female characters will experience different dialogue in this adventure as well as different scenarios. This adds to the replay value just as much to the player choices, play-styles and different dialogue options. There aren't just options here to role-play, there are also options here which can change the plot.
Shown below is a scenario which plays out differently depending on your character's gender:
Origin System: The player's class decides their origin and creates a different prologue. However only Barbarians, Rogues and Fighters can play through this mod. Think of this system as the Origins from Dragon Age: Origins.
Multiple Endings: Based on your choices there will be different endings to the mod adding to the replay value.
LV 1 Forever: Never being able to level up, crafting and upgrading weapons is essential to your survival.
Incredibly detailed world: The world is incredibly detailed. Nearly every house is enterable and every house is unique in their placeables, inhabitants and backstory. As shown below, there are placeables and NPC's performing tasks to add to the atmosphere:
Every NPC has a story and description: Every NPC in the mod has their own background, story and place in the world. Most character's have their stories pan out across the course of your story no matter how small they may be.
No journal or map notes: This means that you'll need to use the "note" section of your journal to write up your own notes and use the custom pins on the map to create your own map notes to remember where some places are.
Manifested Fate - Beyond the Dead will release tomorrow!
