The L.U.R.K. team wants to provide the best possible experience from Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, we don't plan to skew the scope of this game, because I, like many others, fell in love with the game because of the story, the realistic gameplay, and the atmosphere. I plan to preserve and improve on that concept to the best of my abilities, and our team has vowed to do so as well. Which is why we took it upon ourselves to provide that experience. We want to fulfill a niche that's otherwise unfulfilled in the modding community. We want to bring as many features to Stalker without damaging or changing the original theme of the game. While improving upon that concept with features that were dropped off the development cycle from GSC, such as stealth AI, and a strong foundation for balance, as well as dynamic A-Life, and an unprecedented visual presentation that no other Stalker Overhaul can touch.

Seriously,
I dont see why it wouldnt be possible

:S

Jun 24 2010 Anchor

It is. It's late game for some weird reason, when the SKS is available far before and the Dragunov just becomes available.

Jun 24 2010 Anchor

you're right, I got it from Barkeep after the x16 mission.

Too bad I've had the AS VAL forever,
Getting the Mosin that late in the game makes it nothing more than a trophy rifle, only good enough for hunting bandits in the Garbage :S

Say what you want, I prefer the Mosin. I'm still using it as I go into the Scorcher. One chest shot from it, depending on ammunition type, is basically a one-hit kill.

Jun 26 2010 Anchor

You should have been able to get it earlier

To be fair, the scoped Mosin is pretty much the first "sniper-accurate" rifle you can get, other rifles such as the SKS isn't too accurate because of the 7.62x39 round it uses and the VAL's 9x39 round is too slow and heavy. Also, those rounds don't have the overall stopping power and armor penetration a real sniper round (7.62x54) can give. However, I find it odd that the scoped Mosin weighs exactly the same as the non-scoped variant and costs the same too. Also, they have the same stats and performance with each other (as it should be) but their descriptions say otherwise for some reason.

I dont know about that, you can get an AS VAL for free in Army Warehouses at no risk to the player, and 9x39 rounds are sold by Barkeep before you even have to go to Agroprom. 1 in the chest will drop a bandit, 2 will drop any Military, Monolith, and the like.

That being said, as much as I love the Mosin, because there is something very professional about using a bolt action :P, it is simply obsolete by the time it can be aquired

Like I said, the 9x39 round is too slow and heavy, it's very difficult to snipe distant moving targets with guns that use it. With the sniper rifles that use the 7.62x54 round, you just need to lead a tiny bit, no need to compensate for bullet drop too.

My main problem with the new 9x39 is that it doesn't have a tracer, but it seems to retain the same bullet drop and stuff, making it impossible to use at night or in even the lightest rain.

I went to the Red Forest early to get a SVD and a SVU from the monolith fellows. So far, the SVD is a pretty unsatisfactory gun, you can't even kill a bandit with one shot in the torso, they always need like 2 shots and pulling a headshot is pretty tricky as the aim always sways a lot even if you kneel down. The good thing is that I can use it unscoped.

I doubt anyone was as offended by the Nagant's "PEM" sight actually being some retarded pile of red lines and rectangles, but if you want something more realistic, I put together something that actually looks like a PEM sight.

Thanks man, I never liked that mildot sight, it's just out of place and unauthentic. I hope that someone can change the PSO-1M2 reticle as well. Again, the green mil-dot is not authentic, I prefer the real life one with the aiming chevrons and stadiametric rangefinder.

Jul 5 2010 Anchor

And here it is. I roughly calibrated the rangefinder for distances as reported by the game's "Show Distance" checkbox, not that it really matters for anything.

All these texture files go in the gamedata\textures\Aresenal_Mod\Crosshairs folder. I'd recommend backing up any files you replace.

Thanks again, but the second file (Eqluwq) doesn't work.

Sorry, I'm fixing something. Did you know that 16:9 is bigger than 16:10, because I certainly should have.

Ok, here are the 16:9 resolution files

That hosting service isn't going well for me.
Is there another you can upload to?

Jul 7 2010 Anchor

Looks like they moved the files to a different server while I wasn't looking, damned Microsoft. They seem to be working at the moment, though. If it breaks again I'll try to remember my photobucket password.

It's the damnedest thing, the preview jpgs work just fine, but the dds's keep moving. Oh well, reuploaded to Mediafire.

Jul 20 2010 Anchor

Hey could you make some 4:3 textures? Because the standard ones look elliptical to me. Specifically the PSO-1 sight.

Also wpn_crosshair_m1891_2.dds doesn't replace anything, is that intended?

Yeah, you got a point. Why does it come late in-game? I don't know, but you could do what I did fairly simple look at skinflint's trade file and compare it to Sidorvich. Now just copy the scoped mosin part to Sidorvich's file and tada. Sidorvich now sells a scoped mosin... don't forget to have him sell the ammo or you just wasted your time.
