For over a decade, LambdaGeneration has been all about showcasing the best mods and community content from the Half-Life community. Now, it’s time to make some of our own - alongside and partnered with one of the great homes of Half-Life modding, ModDB. Introducing - LambdaBuilds!

Report RSS LambdaBuilds - Tundra Winners and Release!

The release of our fourth partnered competition, Tundra! Sponsored by Military Conflict Vietnam!

Posted by on

With both ModDB and LambdaGeneration in partnership, the fourth of our competitions kicked off in February. After a month of mapping, judging, and scoring, the results of LambdaBuilds' fourth competition, Tundra, are now available!

Entrants had four weeks to design an entry channelling winter chill and bringing in an emphasis on cold environments. Points were awarded based on the visual fidelity, gameplay mechanics, and adherence to the theming, with entries guest judged by Breadman from Entropy Zero 2!

A special thanks to our sponsor for this competition, Military Conflict: Vietnam, who supplied keys for winners and the first place prize pool!

Tundra - Unorthodox

Military Conflict: Vietnam brings an intense, fast-paced and fun first-person shooter experience. Set in the heat of the Vietnam War, side with Viet Cong guerrillas or U.S. Army soldiers in fierce close quarters combat. There is no hesitation. Kill or be killed!

We had a total of twelve eligible entries which were a chilling addition to the rare genre of cold/arctic maps in Half-Life 2 mods! The winners are as follows:

1st Place: Unorthodox, by Beefbacon

Tundra - Unorthodox

A pair of rebels attack an outpost on the frozen outskirts of a Combine-controlled city.

2nd Place: Frozen Fortress, by Attack Slug

Tundra - Frozen Fortress

A seemingly abandoned fortress atop a snowy mountain hides a threatening foe.

3rd Place: -23 Degrees Celsius, by Vertex

Tundra - -23 Degrees Celsius

Up in the Arctic, an unknown hero must guide the boats to Arbeit 2 by switching on the old Heiberg lighthouse. He will have to rely on his jalopy to repel Combine under conditions of -23 degrees Celsius.

We've also chosen to recognise an honourable entry for placing so closely to third and being a really spectacular entry:

4th Place: Road to Hiperborea, by Akos223/env_wind

Tundra - Road to Hiperborea

You are sent to join a secret research group in the north in search of the
mythical Hyperborea, but you soon realize that things have gone wrong.

Congratulations to the winners! LambdaGeneration will be in touch to distribute your prizes and all winners will receive a role personalised to their placement on both the Discord and Website!

The remaining eight entrants are as follows:

5th Place: Frosty Crabs Still Bite, by JS21O3

Tundra - Frosty Crabs Still Bite

A short zombie-infested level. Despite the snow and ice, headcrabs still have a fierce bite.
The rebels sheltered at this dockyard unfortunately discovered that the hard way.

6th Place: Arctic Rebellion, by Red

Tundra - Arctic Rebellion

The player must enter an arctic harbour to warn the greater resistance about events in the region.

7th Place: Sun God, by Bogdan Barantiev / Scp gaming

Tundra - Sun God

The Combine invaded Huītzilōpōchtli's kingdom and the Aztec
God of War has summoned Gordon Freeman to repel them!!

8th Place: Cold Reception, by _TOXIC_MAN_

Tundra - Cold Reception

Deflect a combine attack on a small village somewhere on the swampy northern coast of Eurasia.

Joint 9th Place: ISOLATION, by RzDat

Tundra - Isolation

Hidden in the arctic wilderness by the mysterious Mr. Chambers, Gordon is awaken from his hermit
slumber to find out that the Combine have caught wind of him - but they're not the only ones.

Joint 9th Place: Cold Zone, by DansKart

Tundra - Cold Zone

Escape the city before the cold climate or the vicious Combine can claim your life.

10th Place: Snowfall 17, by AGWHV

Tundra - Snowfall 17

Gordon finds himself on the streets of City 17 during the winter.

11th Place: Clear Sky, by Commando Booce

Tundra - Clear Sky

In the cold suburbs of City 12, you receive a radio message from a nearby rebel safehouse
up ahead. They sent a rebel van to drive you there, but the driver has been missing for hours.

Thanks to all who entered and we hope you enjoy playing the competition as much as we enjoyed creating it! Stay tuned on this page for more competitions in the future!

Not being an expert -I've unzipped this downloaded folder into my Sourcemods folder. Unfortunately, even after restarting STEAM there is nothing shown anywhere regarding the mods. So...have I messed up? How SHOULD I enable the mods?

Hi - you'll need to drop just the LambdaBuilds_Tundra root folder in the sourcemods folder (which inside of should be folders like bin, maps, materials, etc). You'll also need SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer set to the upcoming branch.

Hello David. I was the one asking about installation of LambdaBuilds #4.Thanks for your reply.
So: I have already unzipped, and have the 'LambdaBuilds_Tundra' folder inside my 'sourcemods folder'. I have also checked that the contents are there, inside the "LambdaBuilds_Tundra' folder.I have the 'Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer' installed, and set to 'Upcoming'.
I have already installed HL2/HL2 Chapter1 /HL2 Chapter2 /HL2 Chapter2 update.
I have repeatedly restarted STEAM. But, up to now, there is no sign of the mod in my STEAM games list..Any ideas please?

Hi fellas. Thanks for the help. I have just found the problem. I have NO idea why, but the LambdaBuilds has put itself into my STEAM "Hidden" folder... I just checked there as a last resort! So now that I know where it is, I will unhide it and give it a go later. Why on earth would it hide away, when I have never even played LAmbdaBuilds before? Very strange.....
