surprised the original Alien Swarm team didn't think of this. I do think I've seen this effect in some other games too. It is not that new.
then they wouldn't have to design the maps for the top down perspective but just make the maps like for a normal FPS and then just use func_fade to make it possible to see it from a top down perspective.
