Hoth: Lamda Base is a fictional version of Hoth Battle in Star Wars Battlefront II (2005). It is my own fictional variation of the Hoth battle, not based to the movies, but based on a design I had in mind of my own. It isn't supposed to be an accurate representation of the battle. It is a mix of a location I've seen somewhere and the Hoth battle from Episode V itself. It's also my first public Star Wars Battlefront II map so I am very excited about it.

Description

A nearly completed version of the map. Fully functional. No problems reported yet. A few bugs only. Galactic Civil War on Conquest modes only. Lamda Base is a fictional Hoth battle. It features a rich trench line of the rebels and a long maze of mountain tunnels.

This is a very refreshing Hoth map, you'll often see Hoth maps that are basically different takes on the same concept: a long march across the snowy fields to Echo base, shield gen gets blown up, indoor fighting. Whilst this map does include the traditional "AT-ATs march at the trenches" gameplay that is so synonymous with Hoth, it's not drawn out, instead it is merely one element of the overall battle, the AT-ATs serve more as a constantly shifting spawn point, which enables the Imperial team to capture trenches of their own, so that they can eventually breach the Rebel's position.

I think perhaps my favorite thing about this map is that it is set in and around this large snowy hill, you can go all around it and breach the bunker from different angles, although the AI doesn't seem to comprehend that concept (something that I think would be cool to see in future versions, if possible). This simple detail shifts the entire gameplay dynamic of the map from the static, linear design of vanilla Hoth to one that feels more open.

This is a fun take on a classic setting, Spi mentions that they are an experienced mapper, and it shows, I'm definitely going to keep playing this one, I'd give it an 8/10 if I could.
