Developing Free Mod is a very hard work, because Homeworld2 is not an FPS game or something similar, not at all. I had to work out a whole system to make sure all goals of this mod would come true, and that makes Free Mod becoming increasingly complex, but the result is not very pleasing, too much bugs as well. Still, I do made many successes.
I didn't work too much on new models and textures, I don't have that technique. The whole mod is not very big, its main scripts is no more than 60KB. To tell the truth, Free Mod is still very poor so far, I only made one kind of fighter to be controlled by players. Engine, sheild, missile and mine has only one kind as well, and there are three kinds of weapons, two kinds of torpedos, two kinds of other equipments, quite few isn't it? But what I want to say is that I made it, really made it. Now players can drive a fighter and fly in any direction they like, they can open fire and shoot at target in front of them, or destory it using their missiles, torpedos, or mines, they can also dock with a carrier and launch from it.
Now let's talk about the tutorial, it didn't cost me too much of time, I have some experience of making campaigns. The tutorial will help players understand what this mod looks like and how to play the mod. Really interesting, it seems that I don't need to write a very very long article before releasing this mod. After it's released, just install it and then complete the tutorial :)……
