The goal of this mod is to bring back the units from the original Homeworld into the Homeworld 2 engine, with high quality texture and polycount detail. The campaign and animatics from the original game will also be included.

When debris is spawned, can each piece be referenced individually? Maybe you can make a set of scripts that (1) check for newly generated debris every 30 seconds and places them in a reference group. Then (2) de-spawns debris and clears the reference group when it has been X minutes since the group was created.

One thing that we do in Continuum is have the debris spawn as an FX, then have them fade. You could set this to last for any amount of time, but gradually disappearing debris would help CPU resources

That's an awesome idea. I had to drop depris for frigates because even that was too much, so FX debris sounds great.

Yes, being FX is a good idea, but one of the goals of this is to give the salvage corvette a lot more usefulness, because we still can't have ship salvaging like in Hw1. The idea was to decrease the resources in a map, and make people use the corvette to recover debris for RU.

That is a very good idea.
By the way when you get to the Karos Graveyard could you please allow people to salvage Derelict ships and make them work?

Closest you could get is via the marine/infiltrator frigate method of capture.

That looks amazing. If you don't intend to use this in the main game would you mind releasing it later as an optional option for people to use?

in my own personal little hw2 mod i turned off debris entirely, my pc costs like £2000 and has some of the best hardware available, but it still can not handle the amount of debris that just gets permanently left in space on top of the monsterous battles that take place without an extremely noticable frame rate drop.

Description

Making debris for ships really helps the immersion, but the amount of CPU workload that it requires makes it less useful, on multiplayer or large local matches would make worst than expected, also if we take into account that scripts need a lot of CPU too, things can easily get ugly.

Maybe it could work for frigates and bigger ships, but we would like some more randomness for that spawning.

Even if this was obvious we still wanted some tests.
