Complex is a free advanced game modification based on Relic Entertainment's Homeworld 2 game engine, free of any business directive, developed with passion and hard work, for experienced RTS players only. In a world of simplified games often under pressure to do well commercially, our challenge has been to create this ambitious project, for those who want more from a modern videogame.
this is truly awesome
why all planets are at the same high? O_O
That's how solar systems work, they have an orbital plane where most of the planets revolve through.
I thought that planets shouldn't be at the same high, oh well...
But the distances between these planets in picture are pathetic small ..
pathetically small you say.. ok sure, lets have them build it to exact dimensions... it'll take 10 years for the camera to go from earth to Jupiter without assistance but at least the distances won't be pathetic. ... now i do believe that it was not what you meant however fact remains the same that sometimes game play needs to come before grandiose goals.
and speaking of gameplay.. i'd love if the balcora gates could actually be used as hs gates.. would be nice.. just send capture frigates to open and link two gates and boom.. you save yourself just a little time getting there
made a mini mod for that once, gave it to PTV mod.
if u want bigger get sins of a solar empire. only problem then is that the ships are huge compared to the plants
I always justified that is that everything is in a very high orbit around the planet so the planet is much smaller by relative distance.
I was actually arguing this point with a modder for Freelancer earlier. The guy took the existing planets and made them massive for scalar perspective of the ships, but that meant he ignored the scalar perspective of the solar systems as a whole. Totally broke my immersion the moment I entered a system where it was painfully obvious. It's a matter of player convenience versus perspective scale; you don't want to make distances too large, or you're forcing players to travel ridiculous distances, but you don't want to have scales too disparate. It can be hard to get the balance right.
well, sadly all I can do is agree. planets should be far far away from each other. I know it is not (really) possible in a HW2 map.
but, maybe, 2 planets each "corner" of the map could look "realistic". so to speak.
AWESOME!!
when i seen this
first what came to my mind was FarGate if anyone remember that indie game ...
Superxstudios.com
tho the star's eruptions were nicer :) as seen in DD
Superxstudios.com
still very nice to have some big celestial bodies in HomeWorld 2
Fargate was awesome i own that game too. Also this looks amazing....
FarGate... Now that's a name I haven't heard for many years... :D
Impressive... but I think trying to make an Empire-building game out of any Homeworld game is mostly just proof-of-concept and would result in mechanics that might as well have been made for Sins of a Solar Empire, which does this sort of game far better.
The distances of the planets.. well... rather unbelievable;
they're just too close!
It would've been better if you just had one very large planet/brown-
dwarf star in the center.
I mean, the sun wouldn't fit with the ships at this scale... it should
be loads bigger :(
This is a nice map but the sun causes my computer to lag when facing it. Still pretty good and fun. Although I would prefer if things were broken down like the following.
Have an Earth Moon system, maybe an Earth to Mars with the Asteroid Belt included? Then have the Jovian System, Saturn System, etc.
Make the sun just be a light. For the Gas Giants you could put them in the back ground and just have the moons in the map. That would be a lot easier and more realistic.
I agree with you. It would be pretty cool.
This brings back so many nostalgic memories.
