Why 4 texture files? Just asking.

12, not 4 :D And so I can add all the tiny little details I want and what nobody will probably ever see cause they are so tiny. There are so SO many surfaces on the ship and If put on just one texture(even a big one like 2048x2048) There would be only 100 or so pixesls for a surface. Which doesn't give much room for details. The 40k ships i've seen in mods look awesome, but are meant to be seen from afar and as this ship is used in cutscenes and such it will have to bare closer inspection too and still look amazing. Hoping to achieve this with awesomly detailed textures.

I understand that you need a detailed texture, but why 12? Cant you put some thing into other packs to decrease it? If these are really small details, they should be in one image, the "ornamental" texture in one or two, the surface probably in two as well, and than one another as reserve. 12 seems to me really too much.

I might squeeze out a couple of them, but as I said the ship will be seen at quite close range and as it is huge the textures wont be very sharp without lots of texture space + I don't want copied surfaces! This one ship would then count as ~12 character models and that isn't so much is it?

That's a lot more dakka.

You shouldn't rush your work, Zakathius. You cannot sleep extra on weekends to make for the lack on the weekdays.

I guess it is best to upgrade your systems, allows you to load up non-heretical, righteous materials faster too.

when they looked at what could be added, they swapped all the chairs for machineguns, most of the oxygen tanks for ammo canisters and said "what do we need more,life support or this new gun we found?"

I've been using too much time on everything else than modding, so I've tried to catch up with all this.. Among other things (not ready to be shared yet) I've been working on the Intro of our mod and the Lunar class Cruiser appearing in it. Unfortunately I've come across a problem with the textures.. As I want them to be really detailed to make the most out of the model I have arranged different parts of the hull and details to 12 different texturemaps and as said I want them to be detailed, they're going to be at least 1024x1024. Problem is that when set to such high resolution it has huge impact on system memory consuption.. The whole deal takes up about 1.7gb which is almost half of the 4gb Im currently running with and the program runs out of memory and crashes constantly.. :D So to achieve my insane goal, I am planning to get myself a nice memory upgrade to perhaps 8gigs or so.

Anyhow enough of my ramblings, the model itself has not changed much. Little tweaks here and there and lots of turrets added everywhere!
