HellStrike Troubleshooting tutorial

MY VIDEO SETTINGS CHANGED NOW I CAN'T PLAY
Look for the 'hl_bckup' file. Open the archive then follow the instructions in the 'readme.txt'.

HL.EXE MISSING
Your anti-virus probably quarantined it.
After you've added HellStrike in your anti-virus' exceptions:
1. Open 'hl_bckup' archive
2. Extract'hl_metahook.exe'.
3. Rename to 'hl.exe'.
4. Play.

ANTI-VIRUS SAYS HL.EXE IS A VIRUS
HellStrike uses Metahook, another plugin platform for GoldSrc games. For this to work it needs a modified 'hl.exe'. This is what your anti-virus is detecting. I assure everyone it is not malicious but I also will NOT force anyone to play it. So if you do not feel confident then skip playing this mod. However, if you feel you can trust me then just add HellStrike to your anti-virus' exceptions.

FAILED TO INITIALIZE AUTHENTICATION INTERFACE - STEAM PROBLEM

1. Open regedit.
2. Go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam\ActiveProcess
3. Modify SteamClientDll and put the directory of the steamclient.dll in the Steam folder in Value Data. (you can just copy the Value Data of SteamClientDll64 and paste it on Value Data of SteamClientDll and erase the 64 in steamclient64.dll.)
4. Confirm.
5. Restart Steam.
6. Done.

To prevent this error from happening, leave Steam open when you play HellStrike.

EVERYTHING IS ZOOMED IN, CAN'T SEE THE REST OF THE GAME

You probably overwrote the HellStrike files over another CS client. To fix, extract HellStrike into an empty folder. Double-click 'hellstrike.exe' then play. As for the other CS client, sorry but it's probably messed up now and we can't help you with that.

I INSTALLED A MAP BUT IT WON'T LOAD SOMETHING ABOUT A PRECACHE PROBLEM
1. Go to 'cstrike\addons\amxmodx\configs'
2. Open 'plugins-hstrike.ini' in Notepad
3. Find the line that says 'hstrike/unprecacher.amxx'
4. Put a semi-colon (;) at the start of that line. (ie. ';hstrike/unprecacher.amxx')
5. Save and exit.

The 'unprecacher' plugin blocks seldom or never used assets from being precached, freeing up resources. The map probably uses an asset that is blocked from being precached. Adding the semi-colon disables the plugin.

Maps that uses lots of custom models and sounds may not load if you leave the unprecacher disabled. Be sure to enable it to free up precache slots...
