How To Fix Hellsound Dreams (updated)
1. To make Hellsound work on Steam DELETE file "surfaceproperties_manifest.txt" from: "hellsound\Scripts\" FOLDER (full path name: "steam\steamapps\sourcemods\hellsound\scripts").
This will prevent crashing on startup.
2. Install Source SDK base 2007 from tools tab. It's a HL2/EP1/EP2 content that allows you to play Hellsound without owning any of Half Life 2 series game.
3. Have fun!

the broken color correction gets annoying and apparently the game decided that my use key doesnt need to work anymore
I reccomend you just download NMH:2, and play it. If you have problems with NMH:2 you can fix them a lot easier than you can this mod, and NMH:2 is all around better.
The previous fixing tutorial could be a little bit confusing. I have updated it, the mod is playable after deleting "surfaceproperties_manifest.txt" from: "hellsound\Scripts\" folder.
mod crashes after start up video with the logo. Any ideas?

I can't get this, or Nightmare House 2 to work, as I keep getting the Unable to load surface prop file 'Scripts/Surfaceproperties-ep2.txt' engine error. Both once worked, but that steampipe update trashed these two. I own Half Life 2 Ep 1 and 2, I've tried reinstalling, checking the cache, taking off the beta option, putting back the beta option, trying different suggestions in the gameinfo.txt file. Nothing works, and after months of google searches, no one has come up with a solution. Worse part is, it works on my laptop (windows frigging 8), but my desktop (win 7) is more powerful, and has my 3D set up.
Try deleting surfaceproperties_manifest.txt file from Scripts folder in the mod directory. (Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\hellsound\scripts)
Keep every other files without changes, (specially gameinfo.txt file)
Make sure that your Ep:2 is converted to the "Steam Pipe beta"
Edit: Sorry I didn't see that you put it on the beta. Read too quickly, hmm have you tried manually setting your resolution in the launch properties via steam?
played this right through about 6 months ago, went to try again and now crashes after the loading screen, quite annoying as well this was an awesome mod.
Hmmm, strange, for me mod works perfectly. Make sure you have installed sourcesdk base(every versions, in the tools section). Next, check Half Life 2 Episode 2 is converted to new format. If not, try to start Half Life 2 Episode 2, and the prompt about update should appear.
