I can see that it may be some type of tripod only not real sure.
The player cannot use it, but it is a workable mortar. The Italian soldier in this pic is sending mortar rounds down range to support the attack.

Why is it the two most forgotten forces of the WW2 Axis Powers are the Italians and the Japanese?
The Japanese weren't ALL that forgotten. They were remembered for Pearl Harbor in '41. The Italians.... I don't even know, I'm going to try to do research about Italy during WW2.
I mean in 90% of all WW2 game, it only shows the German army an not the other Axis Powers.
I don't really know about why only the Germans are featured as Axis. But I think the reason why was that the guys who make these games might've forgotten to read their history books.
