Will this replace the turret? or the starbase?
Please say turret :)

It's hard to compare it with the Vanilla turret just because of how damn useful and needed it is. But yeah, the UNSC will have it's own starbase in the form of Anchor platforms and stations like Gamma Station.

EXCUSE MOI, but one thing's for sure- I was just asking. No one had to vote down the crap out of me, just read, post and move on. That's how I get by. So your assumption of course, is crap. I was asking that question because if it weren't for him, we would never- key word, NEVER have sent a man to the moon and get that far if it weren't for JFK. and for anyone else reading who downvoted me, YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO ******* VOTE. smart *****. l=l and another thing: stop ASSuming ****, or your bound to get your *** nailed to the floor by someone else. Hate to say it, but it's true, BEEN THERE, DONE THAT.

Oh yeah because all the scientists, space pioneers a, engineers and pilots who did the hard work making going to the moon possible, they had nothing to do with Armstrong (RIP), aldrin and all the other astronauts and cosmonauts going up there. stop assuming things yourself and leave this space for commenting on the extremely well made work that these guys make.

btw in the books the SMACs energy source is on planet, so does that mean once a planet is lost the turrets (if they survive that long) they wont work anymore?

a SMAC can cut through most Ships before they are even in range so wouldnt that be kind of op for a turret?

It requires a very resource-intensive particle effect that basically requires every single animation state of the model/texture. It's worth it to for-go it so you won't have to take the intense CPU hit.

That isn't entirely true...There is a 4GB patch.. It comes in the Mealstrom mod I know for sure, but I can't find it anywhere else.

There is a way to moddify the xm. files so that the game will accept more than 2gigs - people did it on the waste land wanderers mod for fallout 3 so they could run all the script extenders and what not.

Will there be a regular MAC platform or would it be useless compared to this?

A regular mac platform in comparison to this would be like a fart in a windstorm but i guess they could make a defensive ability that turns the regular MAC's into a super MAC

Are you under the impression there's some sort of difference between this one and a "regular" MAC platform?

This is pretty standard.

A regular MAC platform is like a MAC on a ship making it much cheaper to buy the extremely under powered MAC platforms instead of the huge SMACs.

But isn't that how rail guns kinda work?? The bigger they are, the bigger the projectile fired, the bigger the boom?? So it's not like an updated model or anything, just a much bigger gun than standard. Right?

A railgun doesn't kill a target with a boom, like traditional heavy guns. It utilizes magnetic fields to fire a solid round towards its target at extremely high speeds, figure mach 5 or so. The round collides with its target, destroying it by imparting the kinectic energy it left the barrel with. Remember every action has a reaction.

Think of it like a game of marbles. You flick one marble at another, and if/when it hits, it stops while the other marble is moved. This is because when your marble hit the other marble, your marble transfered its kinetic energy. Now replace your thumb and forefinger with a railgun, the marbles with a round and a target and multiply the magnitude of the physics involved. Instead of merely bouncing the target away, the railgun round smashes its target into rubble.

I know that but i still like to call it a boom-stick because it makes ships go boom.

So what's the scaling for this station like in comparison with the UNSC ships? I don't know what class In Amber Clad was but in any way, I'm guessing a frigate could fit into one of those docking clamp like things?

When I left basic the orbital defense grid was all theory and politics. Now look, the Cairo is just one of three hundred orbital defense platforms. That mac gun can punch a hole clean through a covenant capital ship! With coordinated fire from the Athens and the Malta nothin's gettin' though this battlecluster in one piece.
