Our representation of Halo's iconic space combat in the Homeworld 2 engine, which puts the player in command of some of the most powerful weapons fielded by the UNSC and Covenant and to provide a balanced and competitive experience.
You've seen silhouettes of it for awhile, here's the real thing, finally! Capable of launching up to four strikecraft or fielding up to four repair drones, the Hermes is a capable light fleet-tender. Despite its lack of heavier guns, it still totes a single MAC and four fusion torpedo launchers, when pack a wallup against armor.
A reference to the HMS Hermes?
Wasn't meant to be, no.
Though in the spirit of patriotism let's go with that.
Hahaha yeah I thought the same thing as well :P
This shot is beautiful, it's in my background shuffle.
Fusion torpedoes!?!?!? I thought Nukes were only carried as strategic weapons onboard a limited number of ships?????
1) Fusion rockets/torpedoes aren't the same thing as nukes. Look it up on halopedian.
2) Every UNSC ship frigate-size or larger has at least 1 nuke on board. They aren't that rare.
That and you can miniaturize nukes quite well even today, and this takes place hundreds of years in the future.
Note that a 30 megaton nuclear warhead in the Haloverse is:
>Considered to be a /tactical/ warhead.
>Transportable by infantry. Yeah, Spartans were carrying it, but if it's tactical, it's gotta be pretty mobile.
>Three times as powerful as the largest nuke the US ever fielded.
Okay, difference noted. However in the later novels Nuclear weapons were becoming rare due to the time it took to refine the isotopes used in them, and the fact that they had severely reduced their stock piles, so there were also concerns about the supply running out.....
HHF happens independantly of the Halo timeline, it doesn't take place in any one year.
