New progress update for my mod! Featuring a bunch of cool new stuff like models, maps and more!

Posted by on

Welcome to yet another progress update article for WAR! Been kind of a while since the last update on the ModDB page, but i've been posting a bunch of cool updates on my Discord server (link below) lately. So it's time to finally show these off here with a little article!

#1 - Objectives!

WAR has been always had kind of objective based levels, but finally it's time to actually have them be told to you in the game, so with the help of WAR's new programmer Bacontsu, we present to you a cool objectives menu that tells you what things there are to do in a level in case you forgot.

Objectives

Note the menu's design is just kind of a placeholder for now, it'll look much better when it's finalized!

Also it shows a cool little popup when the objectives get updated in a level.

Hope you like it!

#2 - New armor system!

This has been in the mod for months but i kept forgetting to mention this and it was still a work in progress, but now it's basically finished and i can finally tell you about this!

The mod will have a new armor system, kinda like the one in Blue Shift but more fleshed out!

Armor

Basically there's new armor pickups, all of which give you armor (obviously) but also affect the player in some way.

The vest gives additional damage resistance in addition to the player's general armor.

The helmet reduces camera flinching when taking damage, and reduces damage from headshots to the player.

The gloves increase melee attack speed, reduce recoil and increases reloading speed.

Finally, the boots make the player move faster when crouched and reduces fall damage.

All of these armor pieces have their own health bar that you have to watch out for, as their health gets lower, the strength of their bonuses lowers.

#3 - Guns

I've added a new weapon to the mod, the silenced Beretta!

Silenced Pistol

It won't be useless, since i'm planning a cool little stealth section for the mod, but you'll read about that in an article in the future - so for now have this cool silenced pistol.

#4 - New Maps!

I've been working on some cool maps recently, so here's screenshots of some of them!

First off, i've been prototyping a setting for one of the missions of the mod - an old abandoned town in Germany. So far it's been pretty fun mapping this out, a nice break from blocking stuff out.

Hope you like how these look!

Now here's another thing, since the mod has entity parenting now, it makes a cool truck chase sequence more possible - so i've been testing how it could work out and after encountering a bunch of GoldSRC jank, i've managed to have it playable and without crashes (i hope), here's a video of it!

We'll also be working on increasing the map size limits for the mod, since the default limits are really small for making any type of vehicle section.

#5 - End again!

This is it for now! Sorry for not having more done, since i've been also busy with my other mod Half-Life 2: Outgunned, but now i'm focused on doing stuff for WAR again. Progress has been going pretty well, expect another update in the next two months like last time :D

Stay tuned, and I'll see you in the next update!

The textures really bring out that old half-life mod feel.
I think that building could use a proper drive-way around the fountain to the front to help eliminate the dead space on the floor. Still awesome work that brings me back.
