So far there are three totally new races on the drawing board-- two totally original new races-- the Czalkir and the DR1, and another based off of actual Relic concept art that has come to be called the Lizaanj.

Another formidable DR1 Strike Craft, the Heavy Ion is among the lightest ships in the Council to unleash a full-fledged Ion Cannon.
Looks way too fragile to employ an ion cannon. And it's an anti-fighter unit?
The strings are not custom on this ship at the moment; nor are they fitting it seems; it's not what I would describe as an antifighter unit. I'll admit its not the typical platform for an Ion Cannon, but we figure if the Super Acolyte can handle a few, surely a member or two of the Council will have managed an Ion on a strike-craft hull. *shrug*
It's anti frigate corvette, but the ion isn't very powerfull, You are rigth, it's fragile, but the Dr1 race depends on numbers, not power.

interesting ship design, is this all original to this project or from some sort of scifi universe?
All of our designs are original, apart from a few HW concepts we'll doubtless be integrating down the road.
