For at least a thousand years the Galactic Republic was the dominant ruler of the galaxy, having successfully withstand the wars against the many Sith Empires and the Mandalorian clans that waged war on the democratic union of thousands of star systems. However, corruption swallowed what was once the prideful Republic, leading to discontent and suspicion among many of its star systems. The Separatist crisis ensued and the Confederacy of Independent Systems was formed, rivaling the Republic in size and military power. Both governments could never coexist in the same galaxy and as thus the Clone Wars began.

With the ensuing conflict, the Republic was lead in the war by the Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, overwhelmingly popular in the Republic star systems, the conflict drew closer to an end, and the Jedi Order attempted a coup on the Chancellor’s life, only to be saved by the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader. The Chancellor who had stumbled upon the treachery of the Jedi issued the Grand Army of the Republic’s Contingency Protocol 66, a.k.a. Order 66, and through all the galaxy, the members of the Jedi Order were purged and killed on sight. However the Supreme Chancellor was not yet done. Capitalizing on this discord and conflict, the Sheev Palpatine saw an opportunity to end the corruption that had engulfed the Republic on the first place, and on the same day, he declared A New Order, a reformation of the Galactic Republic into the first unified Galactic Empire. After the Confederacy’s defeat at the arms of Darth Vader, the Empire also took over the star systems of the Confederacy and at the same time it began to conquer regions on the Outer Rim, making it the largest government the galaxy had ever witnessed.

In order to solidify his new Order, Emperor Palpatine surrounded himself of loyal followers, such is the case of the Sith Lord Darth Vader, and other personalities such as Wilhuff Tarkin, Director Krennic, Admiral Thrawn and many orders, the former Clone legions were retired in favor of the Imperial Stormtroopers, anonymous soldiers totally loyal to the Emperor who had become the Imperial shock troops and enforcers on Imperial Worlds. Eventually, due to Imperial Senators backing up rebel cells through the entire galaxy, the Emperor abolished the Imperial Senate, allowing his loyal Moffs to rule portions of his domain as regional governors. The new Imperial might frightened the Imperial enemies and subjugated entire star systems into compliance by the massive fleets of Star Destroyers, the kilometers wide Super Star Destroyers and Orbital battle stations, the most terrifying of them being the Death Stars, mobile moon-sized space stations capable of destroying entire planets, in land the Imperial army composed by the Stormtrooper Corps and an huge array of weapons arsenal such as the AT-AT walkers who solidified the Empire dominion’s on land.

However, after a decade of peace enforced by fear, the Empire too gained its enemies. The rebel cells who sought to bring back the Old Republic had unified into the Rebel Alliance, and Empire’s battle against corruption had it wage war against organizations such as of the Zann Consortium, and although the Empire had dealings with the Hutt Cartel and the Black Sun, those treaties were often infringed by both sides. The Galactic Civil War had begun and the galaxy was again turned into turmoil. The Empire had the upper gain during most of the conflict, but after the Battle of Yavin it was if the Empire began to falter: the Alliance managed to destroy the first Death Star, bringing enormous losses to the Empire, and soon after that an attack on the Empire’s largest weapons factory on the Galaxy was ensued by the Rebellion at Cymoon 1. A counter campaign was formed, were the Empire was successful at eliminating rebel bases all over the galaxy, being the major one on Hoth, but unfortunaly, the combined might of the Rebel Alliance brought an end to the Emperor’s rule, on the Battle of Endor, were the Second Death Star, the majority of the Imperial Fleet and the Galactic Emperor himself were lost. In the day after the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance reformed into the New Republic.

Remnants of the Empire remained scattered throughout the star systems, the power vacuum left by Sheev Palpatine was the trigger to Imperial Moffs and Warlords to fight for the seat of power. Exactly one year and four days after the battle of the Endor, an once again unified Galactic Empire engaged the New Republic on the Battle of Jakku, in what was the biggest battle after Endor. The Empire left defeated, and was forced to sign the Galactic Concordance, a document that forced the Empire surrender to the New Republic, to hand over high important planets such as Coruscant and other Core Worlds, demilitarize their forces and abandon their Imperial Academies, leaving only a small force to defend their territory, cease all hostilities and end the practice of torture and forced to remain within predetermined boundaries in the Core and Inner Rim.

Many warlord factions however, denied the existence of such treaty and thus continued their own conflict against the New Republic, such was the case of the Pentastar Alignment and Warlord’s Zsin’s, but perhaps the most famous example was The First Order, with high number of Imperial starships that left to the Unknown Regions, to escape the prying eyes of the New Republic. There, distanced from the galaxy at large and facing a vast and unexplored frontier, the First Order would eventually be formed from the remnants of the Old Empire, being inspired by the principles of the fallen government and led by many of its former officers, fighting to once again bring the greatness of the Empire back from the oblivion.
