4x4 stairway to heaven

Clouds brightened by the fresnel world light. (Not sure what the green/pink stripe is. I've noticed it since I've played FUEL. Maybe some kind of color band caused by 16 bit color or something? I don't know how to fix it, but it bugs the crap out of me. Sticks out like a sore thumb.)

I experimented with the clouds blocking light, but didn't find anything satisfactory. Ideally, they'd block some light and create crepuscular "god rays", but that would be some ray tracing stuff that I can't implement with shaders alone.
