Forgotten Hope Secret Weapon (FHSW) is an unofficial continuation of the famous Forgotten Hope (FH), a Battlefield 1942 modification. We say unofficial since FHSW is developed by FH fans, not the original FH creators. In 2007 it started as a small addon but since then it has grown to be one of the biggest mods of all time! What makes this mod special is that it adds lots of - but not only - Secret Weapons which saw limited or no action at all during WW2 like jet fighters and super heavy tanks. Some of the maps feature "what-if" battles like a landing operation on the Japanese mainland or attacking a secret German base in the African desert.

It looks like a new Version of FHSW is in the works. Do 335 +++ M6 Heavy Tank +++ Takao-class cruiser +++ Ryūjō aircraft carrier +++ Nagant M1895 +++ Browning Auto-5.

It has been very silent on the FHSW front for the past two years but development of the next version seems to pick up speed and we expect a release soon. Here’s a quick overview of various vehicles the devs have shown us recently.

Do 335

The Do 335 was one of the many last effort fighter planes planned by Germany. It had a unique push-pull configuration which combined the power of a two-engined fighter with the low drag of a single-engined plane. Several prototypes were built and flown but none saw combat.

Two variants will be available:

  • Do 335 A-1: bomber with 2x20mm and 1x30mm guns and up to 1000 kg of bombs.
  • Do 335 B-2: destroyer with two additional 30mm guns instead of bombs.

Heavy Tank M6

The M6 was the first attempt by the US to produce a heavy tank and thought to complement the M3 light and M4 medium tanks. Only prototypes were produced however which were used as a testbed for various guns and armor upgrades.

Four variants will be available:

  • M6
  • M6 with extra armor
  • M6 with 90mm Pershing gun
  • M6A2E1 with T29 turret

Takao-class cruiser

All four ships of the Takao-class will now be available in FHSW. Compared to the Mogami class that is already in the mod, the armor is a bit weaker but it has better torpedo armament. Be careful when using the third turret to not blast your own bridge.

Ryūjō

The Ryūjō was a light aircraft carrier and built in an attempt to exploit a loophole in the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922. She was sunk by American carrier aircraft in the Battle of the Eastern Solomons on 24 August 1942.

Like her historical counterpart she’s very weakly armed to fit as many aircraft as possible. So it’s best to keep her out of direct enemy contact and have other ships close-by.

Nagant M1895

This revolver was a bit dated by the beginning of World War II but still very loved by the soviet army because of its extreme sturdiness and ability to withstand abuse.

It holds seven rounds and delivers high firepower on short ranges. Reloading however takes some time because you need to manually eject each of the used cartridges, and reload one cartridge at a time. You’ll find it mainly on early Eastern Front maps.

This model was obtained by trade with the Battlefield 1918 mod.

Browning Auto-5

The Browning Auto-5 is a semi-automatic shotgun with a capacity of five rounds. Extremely deadly in close quarters combat but unlike other rifles in FHSW this one does not have a bayonet option.

This model was also received by trade with the Battlefield 1918 mod.

They've been quiet for the past year but in just a few days they have teased so much more that it would warrant one more article.
