Forgotten Hope Secret Weapon (FHSW) is an unofficial continuation of the famous Forgotten Hope (FH), a Battlefield 1942 modification. We say unofficial since FHSW is developed by FH fans, not the original FH creators. In 2007 it started as a small addon but since then it has grown to be one of the biggest mods of all time! What makes this mod special is that it adds lots of - but not only - Secret Weapons which saw limited or no action at all during WW2 like jet fighters and super heavy tanks. Some of the maps feature "what-if" battles like a landing operation on the Japanese mainland or attacking a secret German base in the African desert.

How to install?

If you have a previous version of FHSW installed and only want to update to 0.701 use either the Google drive or Dropbox link for the FHSW0701Client.zip found here on the offical Japanese website. General

  • Fixed network problem with rudder of some naval vessels: Fixed a problem in which the rudder movements of some ships were not synchronized with the network.
    This is expected to reduce lag while turning especially in multiplayer.
  • Aerial supply aircraft: The minimap icon has been changed.
    A circular icon will appear around it only when it is available for refueling.
  • Adjustment of lifespan of machine gun projectiles: The time a fired 12.7mm to 40mm class machine gun can go has been extended.
    The larger the caliber, the longer they remain in the game, making them more effective for ultra-long-range fire.
  • Zoom function for weapon subjective view: Fixed an issue where zoom was missing from some weapons.
  • Addition of swivel icons for aircraft gun turrets
    Turning azimuth icons have been added to the gun turrets of all aircrafts three seats and above.
  • Submarine deck guns: Deck gun and machine gun seats located on top of submarines now have their visibility disabled underwater and can not be used.
  • Speed adjustment of light carriers in general: Speed has been adjusted upward, to the extent that it is now slightly slower than that of regular carriers.
  • Improved visibility of transports in general: The camera position and range of movement for the first seat has been adjusted to improve visibility.
  • Added more regional camouflage textures: Desert and winter textures have been added to some weapons.
  • Incorrect ammunition icons for some weapons have been corrected.

United States

  • F2A-3 Buffalo: Reduced vibration problem during gliding.
  • XF5U Flying Pancake: Throttle response has been improved, and the throttle state is now maintained even when the W/S key is released.
    It is now possible to choose to fly at very low speeds, making it easier to take advantage of the wide range of flight speed characteristics unique to this aircraft.
  • L-4 Grasshopper: A problem that could cause the nose of the aircraft to lift in level flight has been corrected.
  • LVT-4 Amphibious Vehicle: The ability to turn in water has been greatly enhanced.
    It can correct its course on its own even if it starts to turn unexpectedly due to a blast from a point-blank round, etc.
  • T26E4 Super Pershing Heavy Tank: The problem of the main gun icon not displaying the type of ammunition has been fixed.
  • M8 Scott SPG: The function to take cover has been added to the machine gun seat. Fixed an issue where the sandbag-mounted type would self-destruct when firing at minimum tilt angle.
  • M12 self-propelled artillery: Firing accuracy in direct fire mode has been revised upward.
  • M18 Hellcat tank destroyer: The function to take cover has been added to the machine gun seat.
  • Willys MB (M18 57mm recoilless gun): The same sight viewpoint as the infantry hand-held type can now be used.
  • Atlanta: The distant view model has been improved.
  • Enterprise: Network-related configuration issues have been fixed.
  • Independence: Fixed an issue where the tilt effect when hit by a torpedo was not working properly.
  • Gambier Bay: Visibility of the first seat has been improved. Radar has been added to the anti-aircraft gun seat.
  • Cleveland: Fixed an issue where the tilt effect when hit by a torpedo was not working properly.
  • Elco PT: Fixed an issue where internal armor determination was being treated as a tank system and is now treated as a naval system.
    This fixes the problem of taking extremely heavy damage from some weapons and unilaterally damaging other naval vessels when colliding with them.
    Fence-like hit points have been added around the perimeter to make it more difficult for sailors to fall in. A ladder has been added to the stern of the ship.
    Changed the spawn point with spawn point specification so that soldiers spawn in a boarding state, improving stability during multiplayer.
  • Bofors 40mm anti-aircraft gun: The visual size of the sight of the twin barrel type has been modified to be equivalent to that of the six-gun type.
    Fixed a problem in which the barrel of the 6-round type appears to float when the screen ratio is 16:9.
  • M2-2 flamethrower: Fixed a problem in which the footstep sound disappears when equipped.
  • M1917 revolver: Fixed an issue where the kill log for some random types was the Colt M1911A1.
  • Infantry backpack: Fixed an issue where the attached bayonet texture was not displayed.

United Kingdom

  • Swordfish: Fixed a problem where the nose of the plane tends to rise when flying horizontally.
  • 6-pounder Canuck anti-tank gun: Fixed a problem in which the internal specifications were the same as those of the regular 6-pound anti-tank gun in some versions. Muzzle velocity has been revised upward.
  • Centurion: The maneuverability has been slightly improved.
  • Matilda II Black Prince self-destruct tank: Fixed a problem with some textures not loading.
  • Matilda I Infantry Tank: Fixed a problem with slipping on slopes.
    Fixed an error in the position of some rolling wheels.
    Fixed an issue where the sloping armor effect was not applied.
  • Matilda II Infantry Tank: Problem with slipping on slopes has been corrected.
  • WASP Flamethrower Carrier: Fixed an issue where the heat gauge was not displayed correctly when firing.
  • Willys MB (3.45" RCL): Zoom on/off and use/not use of sighting perspective can now be selected.
  • QF 3.7-inch anti-aircraft gun: Errors in the sighting device model have been corrected.
  • Lewis machine gun (shipboard type): The muzzle flash effect has been reduced.

Italy

  • Carro Veloce L/33: Fixed an issue where the tracks did not deform correctly along the terrain.
    Fixed an issue where the tank would take damage when touching water, regardless of the depth of the water, allowing it to wade to a certain depth.
  • Semovente (with 75mm cannon): A turret turning indicator has been installed.
    Fixed an issue where the weapon icon for the Semovente 75/34 was incorrect.

Germany

  • Bf109E: Flight performance has been slightly revised upward.
  • Do335: Rudder performance has been adjusted.
  • Me262-C, Ar234B-2/N
    The acceleration rocket has been changed to a single use specification, and is now suitable only for its original takeoff auxiliary use.
  • Flettner (with MG81): A problem that prevented takeoff due to incorrect engine settings has been corrected.
  • Changed the sighting device of the machine gun on top of the turret on tanks.: The machine gun mounted on the turret of tanks has been changed to a type with an anti-aircraft sight ring.
  • Integration of the machine gun on the body of tank destroyer systems:
    The operating seat of the vehicle body ball-mounted machine gun equipped on tank destroyers and other tanks has been eliminated, and it is now treated as a secondary armament in the first seat.
    The new system allows for operation similar to that of a coaxial machine gun, and allows for the full performance of the machine gun even when the number of players on board is small.
    Due to limitations in the game specifications, the ability to switch the main gun's ammunition type has been removed as a result of this change.
  • The Jagdpanzer IV is still treated as an exception, considering that it was equipped with a simple gun mount in historical fact.
  • 10.5cm leFH18 howitzer: Fixed an issue where the gunner was sometimes not displayed.
  • E-10 tank destroyer: An issue where the vehicle body kept slipping and becoming unstable has been corrected. The speed and range of adjustment of the vehicle height adjustment function have been improved.
  • StuG III Type G (Late Type): Unnecessary ammunition type switching indicator has been removed.
  • Panzer IV with 7.5cm RfK recoilless gun: A dedicated wreck model has been added.
  • The model of the Sturmpanzer IV Brummbär has been updated and a late type has been added in addition to the early type. The late type has a forward machine gun on the vehicle body, further strengthening its anti-infantry ability.
    Pistol port seats have been added to both the early and late models to improve their close-in self-defense capabilities.

  • Zerstörer 45 anti-aircraft tank: The coordinates of the weapons icon on the vehicle machine gun seat have been corrected.

Soviet Union

  • The SVT-40 now has three variants, including the SKT-40 carbine variant. The AVT-40 and AKT-40 are fully automatic rifle and carbine variants of the SVT-40 and the new SKT-40 carbine with 15 round magazines.
  • SVT-40: The animation has been corrected and the magazine is now removed when reloading.

  • The PPD-40 has recieved a new model and three new variants have been added. The PPD-34, PPD-38 and PPD-40 (Factory No.202 Mod.)
  • MiG-3 & Yak-9: Flight characteristics have been adjusted.
  • IS-3 Heavy Tank: Winter textures have been added. An issue where the barrel texture was corrupted has been fixed.
  • T-28 Medium Tank: A problem where the camera would move to an unexpected position when pressing F9 in the secondary gunnery seat has been fixed.
  • T-VI (Captured Tiger I): The anti-aircraft sight of the machine gun mounted on the turret has been changed to the same type as that of the T-28 medium tank.
  • DShK38: The sighting viewpoints of the tripod type and turret-mounted type have been improved.

Japan

  • Ki-43 Hayabusa: Flight characteristics have been adjusted.
  • Type 97 Tankette Te-ke: Merged the pilot's seat and the installation seat of the forward base.
    The primary seat in the first seat can be used for main gun fire and the secondary seat can be used for forward bases. Forward bases can now be reinstalled after 120 seconds of reloading.
  • Type 100 flamethrower: Fixed an issue where footsteps would disappear when equipped.
  • Type 99 light machine gun: Fixed a missing texture on the distant view model.
  • Type 88 75mm anti-aircraft gun: Fixed missing textures on the wreck model.

France

  • AMX 50: Fixed a problem where the coaxial machine gun could hit itself due to lag.
  • Maginot line turrets: A/D key turning function has been implemented.
    The inertia of mouse-operated aiming has been reduced to allow more agile aiming.
  • LG mortar turret: Firing speed has been revised upward.

Finland

  • added Suomi KP-31 with +M/44 Flamethrower
    This is a version of the Suomi submachine gun equipped with the world's rarest "under-barrel flamethrower".
    Left click to fire the short machine gun, right click to fire the flamethrower.
    The range of the flamethrower is only about 15 meters, but in combination with a powerful self-defense firearm, it will provide a seamless melee attack.
    Due to BF1942's restrictions on secondary firearms, the number of times a weapon can fire a flamethrower is unlimited, but the duration of continuous fire is limited.

The ability to change ammo types is what set this apart from other mods. Why remove it? Leave the machinegun seat there for the bots to use, not many people plays this mod online anyway.

A lot of tank guns & artillery still have the option to change ammo type and many just got this feature in the previous update this year. Also, bots can't change ammo type.

Thanks for the reply, also, a couple things I want to ask about the bots in FHSW:
1.Can you somehow make the bots able to use the awesome LCT and LST? Right now they just ram them into land and stay on them with all the tanks.
2.Can you add support for 256 bots or make them more active somehow? I noticed in mods like Battlegroup42 most of the bots are active while here if I play with 256 bots many of them just stay in spawn and do nothing. Also the spawns in some maps make bots stuck (e.g trench, house,..)

Hi again, the Japanese developers of this mod know more than me in general and have not tried modding singleplayer myself but I don't think it is possible to make bots better at using the LCT and LST. They are classified to the AI as landing craft but the original landing craft did not have ladders, more than one ramp and vehicles onboard which are all problems for bots.
It is the same with bots in general, some have said bots are more active than before FHSW 0.7 but there are still problems on multiple maps. You could also keep tabs on the FHSW European Mappacks page on ModDB and in the discord which is linked in the main page of this mod page for updates on the new map pack which will also feature bot support.
