In FaceOff Paintball you can use your head movements to duck in and out of cover, whilst you pick off the other paintballers. It features a head-driven handy-cam effect to make you feel more immersed in the game and an online leaderboard that updates in-game as you play. The tracking works using a conventional web camera, so there's no need to go and buy any specialised equipment. FaceOff Paintball can be freely downloaded today from: torbensko.com/faceoff

Firstly, I wish to point out that FaceOff is a pretty experimental system, being developed by just one guy (i.e. me) so unfortunately there's only so much I can do about its flaws. Furthermore, the game uses a preview copy of the FaceAPI (produced by Seeing Machines), so there might be a few teething issues to iron out there too.

That said, on to what you can do...

I didn't receive an email:
Check if the email is in your spam folder
If it still doesn't work, please try using a different email address
(we use a pretty standard email sending method, so there's not much we can do)

If the game doesn't appear in Steam:
Quit Steam and restart it again
Make you have another Steam game installed
Games obtained through one of Valve's hardware promotions do not count, as they don't include the Source SDK
Check that the Source SDK Base 2007 is listed under the Tools list in Steam
Check that you have a folder called fo2 in your .../Steam/steamapps/SourceMods folder
if not, run the installer again
if that doesn't work, please let me know

If the game is failing to load/crashing during load:
Disable your webcam and see if it now works, obviously without head tracking that is.
If so your webcam is the issue, please post your camera and driver in the problematic cameras thread
If not try each of the following...
on some computers it can takes some time to load, so try waiting at least half an minute
in Steam, in Library > Tools: make sure your Source SDK 2006 and Source SDK 2007 are both up to date
once updated, run the Source SDK 2007 at least once (you can quit when you get to the main menu)
in the file C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/SourceMods/fo2, open the file gameinfo.txt and change
AdditionalContentId 380 //Ep1
AdditionalContentId 420 //Ep2

to
//AdditionalContentId 380 //Ep1
//AdditionalContentId 420 //Ep2

right click on FaceOff in Steam and add to the launch options: -window

If you get a menu that only has options and exit and exit doesn't work either:
The mod hasn't loaded properly, so a blank one is loaded instead
as described above:
check the game has installed properly (.../Steam/steamapps/SourceMods/fo2 should exist)
try the same steps as suggested for: If the game is failing to load/crashing during load

If your camera light comes on, but the tracking doesn't work:
It seems obvious, but make sure...
your camera is focused and the lens is clean
your room is lit well enough for you to be seen
your camera can actually see you
your camera is straight on to your face and as level as possible
make sure your entire face can be be seen, yet don't sit more than 1.5 metres away from your camera
try using your camera with a program that you know works to ensure you're sitting in a good position
if none of that helps, please post your camera and driver in the problematic cameras thread

If your camera doesn't come on/work with FaceOff:
Under your device manager disable/uninstall all but your primary camera
Ensure that your web-camera is using the latest drivers and reinstall if not
When installing your web-camera software, only install the drivers - do not install the associated software
Close all other applications that might also wish to use your camera
Try not to use an obscure camera or drivers
If all else fails, let me know what camera/driver you're using and I'll pass on the details to Seeing Machines

Known issues that have been fixed and will be released soon:
--

Fixed in v2.2:
The game often crashes on close
The layout of the disclaimer sometimes messes up

I'll update this list as more solutions come to light. I would appreciate if people could let me know what success/issues they've had with following these tips
Thanks!

What webcam software/drivers were you guys using? Please post the details over at the problematic cameras thread

Also AmaroqDricaldari, you shouldn't have FaceOff in the path. It should be: D:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Sourcemods\fo2\

Alright, I am on my friend's computer right now.

It has a Quad-Core 2.5 GHz CPU
It also has a USB 2.0 Device on top of monitor (an LCD HDTV) that is both a Microphone and Webcam. It is actually a big microphone with a Webcam attached. It is called the Blue Eyeball 2.0

I tried running FaceOff, but the Headtracking wouldn't work. Are you able to give me more information on this Webcam ?

I have to go soon, so I have no time to look it up at the moment.

P.S.: The console closes a split second after being opened

I have disabled my camera, followed all your steps. But it still crashes to desktop without even loading the main menu.

Help?

The Leaning is far too sensitive. Not only that, but the camera shake gets very dissorienting, and the AI is too tough to beat. And of course, I am not used to the weapon being in the center of the screen. Can't you give us the option to move it to the right or to the left?

P.S.: Are you able to accept donations, or start a small team to help you with development?
P.P.S.: Sorry for cramming all of that in one post.
