The latest patch for the Demo version: Compass, fixes, non-WSE compatibility, and more
Explorer! Patch 2
Important update:
Please redownload the patch!
Hello everyone!
I've been mentioning this for a couple of days now, and finally it is ready: The next patch for Explorer!
This patch fixes many of the bigger annoyances people seem to be having.
To install:
Overwrite the contents of the main download with the files included in the patch.
Changelog:
- Added a Compass that can be used in the world
- Chance of encountering either parties or animals, so you won't aggro parties while hunting.
- Party members will help player when hunting
- Added fadeout to leaving town scenes
- AI parties now (almost) always travel towards the nearest parties (as determined by a few factors)
- Tons of backwards compatibility with non-WSE version, mostly just replaced errors with messaging telling you to use WSE
- Mountains have been temporarily removed, random scenes are much much flatter.
- 'Sleep' no longer crashes on non-WSE version
- fixed numerous other crashes
- Townsfolk are more likely to lead you to destinations on request (still not 100%)
- Items picked up or horses mounted (that are not in inventory) get added to inventory. The execution is still a little awkward, but for now it works.
- Much higher chance of getting loot from killed enemies
- Added Native arena battles to town arenas (just for fun)
- Fixed male character hair/skin colour - still needs 2nd pass
- Changed starting equipment a bit just for a laugh
- New launcher logo, Autumn Forest by Martin Stankewitz (a.r.r.)
- Manhunter armour changed for each 6 factions, for some more variety.
- Other bugfixes
What's next:
This should be the last patch for the Demo, unless I have broken something here. I am going to start tackling some larger problems, so the next couple of weeks might not see too many updates. However, work on the mod continues! I've been completely bowled over by the support I've received so far. For a fairly simple demo, this mod has already gained more traction than I could have anticipated. So: Thank you to everyone who has played the demo! Seeing so many people playing and talking about Explorer is just unbelievable.
With that being said, don't hesitate to make the jump and support the mod even further with a small donation! A little can really go a long way. You can support me on Patreon or you can send me your e-mail address to make a donation through PayPal. I am trying to put back about an hour of work per dollar received into the mod, which seems like a good deal to me! (maybe not "for" me...)
Big thanks to everyone for the amazing kindness you've shown me so far.

Is it save game compatible? Amazing, great improvements so far. Downloading.
It won't be savegame compatible at all, I'm afraid.
Cool, no matter.
This mod is absolutely amazing, and I can't wait to see your new version of this game. But I have got some problem.:
First, I don't know if it is shade's problem, but I can not see river and water properly.
Second, it could be better if there is a map to access, which can tell me where I am and which direction I should go. It can be done by some kind of GPS map, or just simple map on info page would be very helpful.
Also, I have got some suggestions that you can finish early game context, for example, trade system, Thir sell linen in low price, and player can buy it and transfer it toward Praven and sell it in higher price. And there are alot of things you can do about trade, for example, hire a cart to transport heavy staffs, own your own enterprise etc. This may give player early direction on making money and recruit members rather than travel around and kill random people. The mid and late game context can be done in future, but it is important to grab people's interest with early game context.
Thank you so much kaisazaishi!
Your water problem might be caused by graphic settings: Try to disable 'Use Depth Effects', or turn off any anti-aliasing and see if that works.
A map is in the works, as well as other options to help get around. Some people have found it useful to pull up a map on their phone/alt-tab while they wait for me to implement one:
Vignette.wikia.nocookie.net
This obviously isn't ideal, but it does work.
You're right about expanding early game content ASAP. The demo got a bit more attention than I thought it would. :P the next version should be out in early October, and give people more stuff to do.
Your idea for simplified trade is a good one too, I was considering something similar in giving towns their own unique trade goods and basing price on how far away the player sells them. At the very least, I want to avoid using something like the Native system where players might have to travel halfway across the world to make a profit - it would be too large an undertaking with Explorer's travel system.
