Eviternity is a megawad comprised of six 5-map episodes (called Chapters) plus two secret maps. Eviternity's six chapters explore a series of unique and varied themes, each featuring classic gameplay with an interest in making each map hold its own unique identity and personality. The themes are "Medieval", "Techbase", "Icy Castles", "Industrial / Brutalism", "Hell / Gore / Alien" and "Heaven". This project exclusively uses OTEX, a brand new high quality texture pack by ukiro. While mostly being a "Dragonfly project", with 24 maps being made or heavily worked on by Dragonfly, we present to you a mighty lineup of well-known guest mappers who have crafted beautiful and fun levels. Since the initial release we've worked hard for an additional two months working on the now-final version of Eviternity! We hope you enjoy Eviternity, thanks for downloading & playing!

i finished a RC version and it is absolutely mindblowing adventure in every way, one prob i had was with this chaingun version of hell knights, whenever i killed them according to hp bar, the hp bar vanished like it should, but these guys were like 'i dont give a damn' and they were still alive and shooting at me :/ i dont know, maybe it was colliding with my addons i use, when i check this final version i post an update here. eviternity: 10/10
texture pack: 10/10

Hello Stan!

Thanks a lot for your great ratings of Eviternity! I can confirm that this is likely a conflict between your mod and Eviternity, as Hell Knights die as they should when played without additional mods.

Sorry for the inconvenience there.

Hi Dragonfly.
I'm gonna paste this here since Eviternity 2 is not yet on moddb so, i've just finished E2 RC2 (~11 hours HMP) (i see that there is already RC3), what to tell hmm.. like E1, E2 scale is stunning, textures shines like never before, around maps 15 there were few with 20-30 fps drops, due to i think heavy use of trees with falling leaves (trees are superb), few maps around EP3-4 are so big and complex i also was hit by fps drops (oh my on Kenosis...). But i manage to blast trough of course with few mods :). what i was witness is that : MAP9 Modified the exit 3-key switches to transform into stairs. --after use of 3 keys, bars right in front of the exit didn't move, why ? how to lower them ?. On Map27 - "honeycomb rhombus" almost at the beginning, climb up and there is hole in the ground in front of the switch (you can stuck inside unless noclip). Maybe it was already detected and fixed in RC3, anyway -- fav moment : battleship and trees. On few occasions i've had "where to go, how to get there" moment but aside from that everything was realy nice, like E1, E2 is a must play for every DOOM fan. Congrats to the whole Team. Standing ovations 10/10. Thank You.

Yeap, BDv21 RC7 works as intended.

There is also the new enemy type, the green Pinky from the main screen, that creature might not support brutalities.

Map 5: Putting an incredibly dickish archvile spawn in a room after a large mob and during a fresh large mob is just about the laziest design decision and quickest way to **** off the average player. The way the archvile is used here is a lazy and superficial way to fluff up mob numbers and deal large damage to an unsuspecting player. They should be used sparsely and only in places tailor-made for them. Throwing one into a mob, especially next to two revenants that spawn in simultaneously is not only cheap, but makes it feel like this megawad isn't even intended for the average player. I am loathe to continue on because your map put a very bad taste in my mouth.

Hah, I just died at that part (with Brutal DOOM) and was surprised because I knew the Arch-vile was coming then, I could feel it and was ready with dual Plasma-Rifles at full ammo and a few spare pickups to boot, yet I still died from all the Revenant spam. I ******* hate Archies so I took him out first.

Maybe I missed the BFG, that would be the smart move here, but I don't think so. I'm not saying this part is impossible nor fun, but I agree its a little OP for the average bear.

EDIT: Okay this time I got up in the portal (ending) area again right after hitting the second switch. Had plasma ready and focused my fire on the Archie and one of the Revenants, then took out the remaining Revenant. For cover you can back up and with luck one of the Revenants will not see you right away. Wish I kept my weapons but you collect them rather quickly on the next map.

These textures are a feast for the eyes and the level design has been pretty solid.

Well I was using the Brutal Doom mod too, and the weapon behind the megasphere was a railgun for me so it wasn't really helpful for that part. Not sure if in vanilla it's supposed to be a BFG? If so, then eh. Still don't take back what I said about archviles, though.

Not a fan of the railgun either, its best against the Mastermind IMO. Anyways here is what you can try next time you want to re-roll the maps/mods randomized variables. First load the autosave for that level, now open the console (~) and type the following: changemap MAP05

This will reload the map and keep your current player stats.

What difficulty are you playing it on? I'm an average player and found it just right on HMP. Ultra-Violence is a bit too difficult for me, but it is meant to be the "hard" setting.

Ultra-Violence. The rest of the episode was a piece of cake.

Please consider playing on a lower difficulty. This Megawad was tailored to support a wide audience of players, from 'noobs' to experts alike.

As such, please find a difficulty setting more in line with your skill level - Hey, Not Too Rough is more akin to your traditional Ultra-Violence in the later levels.

Also, I'd consider playing without Brutal Doom, as this heavily adjusts the balancing of each encounter.

Thanks for playing Eviternity, I hope you'll enjoy the remainder of the wad once you adjust to a more comfortable difficulty setting.

Check doomworld forums. Eviternity uses a special texturepack called OTEX. But yes, it's included.

Thanks for the response, I played through MAP09, haven't found any secret maps yet. I appreciate that the maps enemy count isn't too crazy, some people have such large waves that it stops being fun. They did a great job on this, cannot wait to use the textures with other wads.

Thanks for playng Eviternity - I'm glad you're enjoying it! The secret maps follow the traditional DOOM II system - there's a secret exit on MAP15. The exit to MAP31 (secret map 1) will take you to MAP32 (secret map 2), so you don't have to worry about finding two secret exits back-to-back.

Can I use gameplay Mods like Complex Doom, DRLA with this Megawad?

These mods mostly replace monsters and guns soo wanting to know~

I've not done extensive testing of any mods. You're welcome to try it for yourself; however I would note that the balancing of Eviternity is based around the vanilla weapons and monsters, so the gameplay may be wildly different with mods.

Good luck, have fun!

Is the pistol shooting way faster then normal intended behaviour?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
Dragonfly_Doom Author
Dragonfly_Doom - - 10 comments

Yes. The pistol has been enhanced so all shots are '100% accurate' (there's no bullet spread) and so that it shoots faster. This keeps it as a viable weapon for sniping enemies off of ledges in a later-game situation, and also makes pistol starts much less tedious. :)

I have to ask, was is really necessary to have THAT many mobs (you know what im talking about maps with 500+ mobs or that one map with OVER 999 mobs!)Im all up for murder revisited, but my poor CPU...... I think I broke the janitor for Brutal Doom 21rc8....

But those level designs *manly ero sounds*

Eviternity has a pretty mild monster count by modern standards. When you have mapsets like Sunder that have thousands of monsters in each map, this is on the relatively light side.

playing mods like this with brutal doom is harsh on your CPU. you get tons of frame drops especially at chapter 6. i dont play with brutal doom because i dont like it. but i have played it with slayer rampage weapon pack. i had FPS drops in the low 20s. all because of the extra particles and what not that your CPU have to render. its best to play this with the vanilla weapon pack to have no fps drops. with vanilla weapons i stayed around 200FPS constantly with this mod at 1080p

I'm assuming this door to the secret on Map07 is supposed to open. I've spent the past half-hour humping and shooting every surface in the level to get in there.

Playing this on my new Surface Pro. If my dad saw this he'd be like "Oh cool, it's Doom." I would say, "Yeah, it's actually new levels someone made on the game's 25th anniversary." He would look shocked and say "People are still playing it 25 years later when you have Xbox and all that?" Then he'd sat down and played it.

Maybe I'll do that when he comes back from South Carolina.

And not to plug another mod but I'll show him Brutal Doom. Oh man, that's gonna be nuts.

Hi! I came from the Order of Odonata thirsty to play more maps made by you. I think they have a nice synergy between rooms, kind of like an immersive sim but with Hexen charm and atmosphere.

To my surprise, you kept exactly the same synergy when transitioning from level to level! Thanks for this map pack!

I have a question: I noticed that when I finish an episode, I die at the transition so when I start the next ep, I'm only with the pistol. Is there a way so I could play every map/episode bringing everything I found in past levels? I'm playing with Trailblazer gameplay mod, and I would love to keep my weapon upgrades throughout the whole map pack.

Dying at the end of each episode is entirely deliberate, and each episode is balanced around you starting with just a pistol. If you could carry over your weapons it'd make the start of each episode way too easy. I guess you could spawn a bunch of guns using the console, but that's not how the maps are designed.

Reply Good karma Bad karma0 votes

Bauul - - 44 comments

To be clear, jumping and crouching is deliberately disabled in Eviternity, as the maps were specifically designed without these in mind. Being able to jump and crouch makes things easier than designed, and potentially even allow you to break map-sequences and get softlocked if you jump over something you shouldn't. My advice is to leave them turned off.

Hey, great WAD, but I wanted to play it in Doomsday Engine and unfortunately I get mild 25 - 30 fps, when average Doom I have around 90 fps... Any clue how to solve this? I tried disabling all the effects in Doomsday engine but had no luck, still low fps.

Unfortunately the Doomsday Engine really struggles with any kind of detailed maps. It's an issue with the engine optimization. If you want to use an advanced source port, Eviternity was designed with GZDoom in mind.

Both - If you play continuously, your equipment will be reset to a standard pistol start every new chapter (every five maps), however each map was built and tested with pistol starts in mind just as much as continuous was in mind. :)
