Echoes of a Bygone Age is a work in progress mod for Mount and Blade: Warband, that will take place in a low fantasy world, where a once mighty empire has collapsed leaving behind many small City States, who are locked in a bitter struggle for control. Each seeks to rebuild the old Empire, but only one can succeed. Or perhaps, a new power will rise, and rebuild the old Empire how it was built - through conquest.

Duchy of Wroszaw

Overview

Located below Daenlan, Wroszaw and its neighbors all share similar cultures and languages. Wroszaw was independent until only fifty years before the collapse of the Empire, and was not easy for the Empire to take. Wroszaw had a disadvantage when it came to technology, but had very skilled commanders who managed to draw out the war for much longer than the Empire expected, or could afford. In the end the Empire won by sending a massive force consisting of multiple Legions to besiege the capital, but still lost many men due to attrition. After Wroszaw was conquered it did not take long for the Empire to have more problems, as many of the old Wroszaw commanders formed a resistance group, and began to constantly pester the Empire. The movement was able to remain active up until the Collapse of the Empire, when it was no longer needed.

During the years the resistance group operated, they attacked convoys, ambushed small Legions, and burned Imperial farms. As sympathy for the movement began to spread outside of Wroszaw, more small resistance movements began to crop up all across the Empire. These groups grew, and many gained the secret support of some of the Chancelleries within the Empire. Seeing this as a threat, many Imperial lords began to gather as much money as possible, hoping to hire mercenary armies to deal with the seemingly inevitable civil war. Due to increasing taxes, and other treatment that was generally not liked by the common folk, the sympathy for the underground groups began to grow and grow.

Wroszaw was one of the only territories the Empire controlled that did not make any effort to convert to the Imperial religion. Due to their previous difficulties with Wroszaw, and in fear of more resistance groups, the Empire largely allowed Wroszaw to do this. This made other regions in the Empire unhappy, as they felt it unfair for one region to be given this choice while there were not.

The conquering of Wroszaw is seen as an event which sped up the collapse of the Empire by a great many years, as it cost them greatly to take the place and even when it was theirs it continued to cause them trouble. Many in Wroszaw proudly boast that it was their nation who brought the largest Empire the world had ever seen to its knees, and they aren't wrong.

Military

Wroszaw is one of the more traditionalist nations, having not advanced much since some time before their take over by the Empire. They field mainly spearmen and archers, with support from some cavalry. Wroszaws military is good all around, but is lacking in technology. Wroszaw is fairly good against cavalry, as they field lots of spearmen, but can suffer against enemy infantry and especially more advanced ranged units.

Wroszaw is very good at defense, as their spearmen can quite effectively deal with enemies charging into them. Their use of archers is outdated, but they can be devastating if used correctly.

Government

Wroszaw is led by Duke Franciszek, and is a standard feudal duchy, and is independent of any larger nation.

Conclusion

That's all for this little update, stay tuned for more updates like this, and pictures of the new stuff. Next up will be some more troops for Aurelia, the faction I made first, but have somewhat neglected. After that expect more information on the existing factions, and their armies to be fleshed out.
