The aptly named Escort Carrier is little more than a mobile fighter hanger and repair bay. Lightly armed with two lasercannon banks and a concussion missile launcher to discourage any fighter attacks, the carrier's true strength lies in the large number of TIE series fighters and bombers that it can carry and deploy in a battle. Usually kept at the rear of a battle to protect it from enemy fire, the Escort Carrier is constantly releasing and repairing fighters to provide fighter support for the rest of the fleet.
An Escort Carrier carries on average 6 squadrons of TIE Fighters, 3 Tie Interceptor Squadrons, and 3 Squadrons of TIE Bombers.
