Drek is a 'Drag'-racing where you can smell the burning rubber through the whole game.
You earn money when you win a (1v1) race and by betting on other races. With that money you are able to upgrade your car, pimping your ride or even buy new cars.
We are aiming at a realistic racing game, just not with the cars you are expecting right now.. I'm talking about 'real' cars:
- Porsche 356b
- Maserati Merak SS
- Simca 1200 S
- Beetle
Currently we have all the models ready including 3 extra skins per vehicle.
The game is aimed to LAN games and to play online with friends. You need to spectate when you are waiting for your turn to race. During this 'spectate' mode you can freely walk around the area, or help out on the start and finish. Maybe you need to clear the road from wreckage before the next race.
The game will have a 'game master' which will be chosen at the start of the game. The GM decides where the race is going to take place. Where is the start, and where is the finish. He can place them 'dynamically' during gameplay.
After a long time a word from us. I've been getting alot of emails about Drek. Well, i have some good and bad news.
First the bad:
Drek is no-longer being developed as a mod for HL2.
The good:
We have another engine. Luckily alot of work is reuseable in the new engine.
This is our 2nd switch already. I wanted Drek to become a stand alone game instead of just a HL2 mod.
This far the multiplayer connection is working. (Had to write it from scratch) Just we need a little better prediction.
Anyway, many many new idea's have reached the design stage. We are aiming for a private beta on the 9th of april during a dutch gaming convention. If we're going to make it however is still the question. A single player part will be availabe for demonstration.
So, alot of work has yet to be done again.
Regards,
stevie

Hehehe, I can see. 3 messages in a row :)
We are releasing an alpha when we have a solid alpha version.
Yes, we can race now but everything has to be done manually. Setting up the match etc. Keep up the support though!

Hi zearraki,
No we won't abandon anything!
We are all very dedicated to this. The people currenlty working on the mod are close friends, and we know eachother (personally) over 4 years.
Also, at this point we don't see any (big) problems on our path. At a decent pace we continue to work on 'The game we always wanted to play'.
regards,
stevie
this mod looks soo cool. I hope you finish it and dont abandon it.
very good choice with the old cars. try and get some chevy novas in the game
Well, it's not really about 'drag' racing. Its more like a street-racing thing, only not on the streets and not in those kind of cars.
We choose for old cars (around the seventies) because we like those so much :)
